While trying to remove bolts for mounting crash-bars, I encountered this tough nut (or bolt) and the grooves started slipping almost from the first try. The head sits inside a pocket, flush with surface, so no chance of grabbing it from outside to rotate it. I didn't want to make a worse situation into an impossible one, so left it as is. Is there any thing I can do with everyday tools, or is there a place I can take the motorcycle to have them remove it? Thanks

The culprit is shown in the picture. Maybe this will help zero in on a solution.

At least you know who is taking your money, and have some recourse. Unlike many of us whose 401K turned into 101K. I know people who went back to work (whatever they could find) because their retirement evaporated. -

The one on Costco is 60Cx, without the compass and altimeter. If you wait around you should be able to find a good deal. I think this series is now superseded by 62 series.

My deepest condolences, my thoughts are with you, Paul. Nothing can fill the void created by deeply departed, but friends can try.

I bought a USB enclosure for this reason. I have kept it for emergencies. You can bring it to me and we can try it (my office is in Sorrento Valley). If the problem is with the enclosure (less likely but possible) it will help. Also if the drive is clunking, it indicates a mechanical failure inside the drive. The more you try to use it the worse you will make it. If the drive is not clunking, and the USB enclosure change does not work, you can take it to some of the drive recovery places and get data recovered relatively cheaply (a clunking drive requires opening it up in a clean room which is a costly procedure).

Crawdaddy's Denver to San Diego "Adventure"

Thanks Chris. Excellent report. I lived in Colorado for few years and only did 4-wheel exploration. Wish I had taken to two wheels then. Any chance you could post your route/track (complete or incomplete)? -

I need to transport a bike from LA area down here. Rather than paying a moving company, I want to do it myself. I looked at motorcycle trailer at U-Haul, very cheap ($15), but it is just a flat bed trailer. I am not sure how much secure the motorcycle will be on this (going up and down hills, sharp turns, etc..) and if the tie-ups would damage the components (plastics, forks, etc..). Would it be OK to use the flat-bed trailer with careful ties? Are their any better trailers available for rental in San Diego area? Please help.

To the other side of it Seems like I was overly concerned, but better be safe than sorry in the middle of freeway. I have the ratcheted tie-downs (!) that should hold the bike well. I found something that goes over the handlebar and allows the grips to be tied. This should avoid plastic fairings (mid-size street bike). Bikeslut, thanks for your offer. I think I am good for now, but may take you up on that some other time.

I am looking for a good mechanic to do (or help me do) a few mods on my 950 Adv (starting with canisterectomy). I am cheap and so should be the mechanic. Don't want to go to dealer to loose my arm and leg (that is better saved for the trail). Suggestions/Recommendations?

See the testimony of fellow officer and the victim Testimony 1 Testimony 2 The shooter's fellow office expressed concern for his own safety in the way that shot was fired. The problem with "victim tried to move in the wrong manner" argument is that it assumes victim went through a certain training. People do not go through any training on what to do once stopped. All we are supposed to do is stop. On the other hand, LEO's are supposed to be trained on what to do and when to pull out a gun, and when to pull the trigger, and where to AIM! Aside from the proceedings of the trial, I think any dept where such things happen should go through an external scrutiny of their training and operating procedures.

It is no fun to ride in bad traffic. Unfortunately I can not do an early day ride this week. Next week is much better.
