  1. John was a great guy. I worked for him at Fallbrook HS back in 03, my students built him a nice trailer in metal shop class. One of the very few public school administrators who was actually helping students learn something important in life.

    EXC 450 vs. WR250R - huh?

If I could only have one bike, I think I would have a lot more fun with the 250 than the 525. Riding the 250 would let me keep the illusion that I could ride a lot harder, the 525 would be a constant reminder that I'm old and slow. It's the same reason that I stopped dating Italian super models, Hollywood starlets, and Olympic gymnasts, I'm sure many of you guys have done the same.

New BLM Permit Requirements for Desert Dash

I've been working on the addition to my house quite a lot and haven't been out on my bikes very much. I had a scorching discussion going on at advrider about the new CA pipe law and mandated ABS. Since Jerry the "Moonbeam" got back in office I've been considering adding an ammo storage bunker out back and some gunports on the second story. My wife says I need to calm down, so I thought I should check in with you guys and think about puppies and rainbows.
  5. Quads? A heavy hand on the throttle? It's a trail, not a Moto X track. I'm not saying everyone should ride as slow as I do, maybe just not half-fast.

    STOLEN: My KTM

I haven't been on the site for awhile and I saw the mention of this incident on ADVRIDER. Way to go Fakename and Trophyhunter for putting the Habeus Grabbus on these low lifes! That's a great story and I hope those clowns get shanked in jail.

New BLM Permit Requirements for Desert Dash

But, you have to look at it from BLM's point as well... we're on their land, and they don't know how big or small this ride is... nor do they know the caliber of the rider or persons involved. It's a "Safe" thing to do, however... only one, may be a bit of a problem if two or more incidents happen at one time. That's the kind of thing that just makes me want to go Amish! What does the BLM propose to do if a bunch of people decide to go out there to look at the flowers?

    Intersection

Personally I do my best to avoid riding a Harley or a scooter and I give semis, soccer moms and cell phone users a wide berth. By taking these simple steps and doing wheelies whenever I get a chance (increases conspicuity, especially with an orange vest), I think that I am taking big steps in increasing my safety!

    The Norton Project

You boys can start with my '72 Combat 750. I just hope it looks half as good as that one when I'm done with it!

    Coroner's Report

It would be great if we could read the narrative about the incidents.

    Steve Crombie has switched horses.....

And anywhere you go someone has probably already been there on a CT110. Cannonball Baker didn't have FI, electric start or GPS. Just do what you like and like what you do, it isn't a competition.

    Start 'em off young

And next thing you know he'll be doing a wheelie in front of the High School... and so begins the road to hell!

    Well, Went to court today..

There are two kinds of traffic cops; professional traffic cops who protect public safety and promote efficient traffic flow, and assholes who know that if they write lots of tickets to compliant, minor offense motorists, they will get paid just as much, have more time to mooch donuts, and be able to spend quality time parked under a shade tree cruising porn with a smart phone. On principal I think you should contest any ticket that you think is bogus, in reality the system is set up to make it a real PITA and maximize revenue collection, so your chances of prevailing have gone to just about ZERO in the last 20 years. If you don't mind spending the time, and you realize you might even get a BIGGER fine, go ahead and take it to court. If you are really sharp and sarcastic you may succeed in giving about 200 people a good laugh while they are waiting to be liberated of their money. Actual dialogue in court; "Your honor I would never argue with a policeman out on the street, I feel that the courtroom is the proper place for that." "Are you a Lawyer?" "No, I'm a school teacher. Are you actually a Judge? It says Commissioner on that little sign on the bench." "You can't argue your case here, you have to post bail in order to have a trial date." "I'm making a motion that the registration charge be dismissed, the registration was valid at the time the citation was issued. I have the DMV printout here." "You have to post bail before I'll hear your motion, go to the Clerk's office." "Your Honor, the offense is an infraction and I have now appeared on or before the date indicated. I'm requesting a trial date or dismissal." "I'm not going to set a trial date or dismiss the citation until you post bail. Bailiff, escort him out!" Bailiff approaches with hand on gun butt. "Let's go!" Bailiff escorts me to Clerks counter and tells me to post bail, while standing in position of advantage with hand on gun butt. I speak with the Clerk who tells me the bail is $220, I tell her that I'm not going to post bail for an infraction and ask the Bailiff if I'm being detained or am I free to leave. "You have to post bail." "Are you going to pull out that gun and take it from me at gunpoint? Or perhaps pepper spray me in this crowded room in front of 50 people, no doubt some of whom are attorneys who would love to represent a lawsuit for excessive force? The last option is to arrest me, but I don't think that you have probable cause to take me into custody, or the physical strength to do it if you tried. I'll be leaving now, have a nice day." About a week later I got a new Notice to Appear and eventually wound up paying the $220 after going to court 2 more times and getting the run around, I.E. your case has been trailed to 13:30, your case isn't on the docket, your case has been moved to division 2 room 12, etc. etc. Look at it this way Wil, now you have proof that you have a scorching fast bike and you're a wheelie wiz! Fighting for Truth, Justice, and The American Way! BOHICA!
  14. "Destructive Testing" ? I thought that was just called CRASHING! Nice trails, and was that a 34B spaniel?

    Carlsbad USGP:1980: The Movie

I just want to thank Ken for putting it all together. I had a great time, Donna enjoyed the story (knowing nothing of the USGP) and she likes to collect art so she bought the prints of Marty. As cinema I thought the movie was an OK documentary, but being in that crowd for the premier was fantastic! Thanks again Ken!
