Carnegie SVRA under threat
amgems replied to amgems's topic in Important Issues, Environmental-Land Use Issues, Important Meetings & Local Information
Me too. Brian Jones is a good one. This shows that "taking action" does get at least some attention. -
The state is wants to sell the land that was purchased with green sticker funds. The green sticker fund is just about the only well managed and solvent fund in the state, and all the other mismanaged funds keep "borrowing" from it. The problem is, they never pay it back. To take action, click on the link. It will take you to the AMA, they describe what is going on, and it will generate a letter to your state senator. https://cqrcengage.com/amacycle/app/take-action?engagementId=498508#.XOXUjxY1DT4.gmail Pass this around

Some video of the ride. Lot of quality lost when imported into and then viewed on youtube. But it still is sorta OK. Very fun ride and camping trip. -

The brown one was a friends trike. Yamaha 175 engine. Talk about bad ass. The red one was only a 90, but it had chrome forks. Nice hair, huh?

You can borrow my leak down tester. It's all set up for my 2012 350. I haven't tried it on my new bike. It needed an adapter or extension or something to reach down that deep spark plug hole. And then that had to be reduced in diameter. I'm sure we could make it work.

I've got an HPF pump in my back pack. I guess i now have a new fishing weight. Thanks for sharing all this Paul. Good stuff!

Lots and lots of these FI bikes that run for many miles with no fuel problems. The rare failures get alot of attention.
-
I hope these points help: I had to use plumbers tape on my homemade fuel pressure gauge to stop the leaks. Lots of plumbers tape. When my bike had the split filter, it ran poorly, but ran. Pressure 30-35. A few years ago, guy had a bike that was running bad. His pressure was 30ish. He replaced the pump with a ktm assy. Just for fun he ran the old pump until the bike would not run. Quit running at 25psi. The pump failed rapidly. It was the actual pump that was bad. Early on with ktm fuel injection they had some bad pumps 2011-2012ish Testing the pressure periodically is a pretty good way to catch a problem... sometimes. I had the harbor freight leak down tester. It didn't work accurately. Now i have an OTC (brand name) works very well.

The guys at the KTM shop here in Poway found the split filter by running the pump in a bucket with some gas in it. You could see it spraying out. That's when I put out the cigarette.
-
I do indeed have a pressure gauge. Made it from parts from a Harbor Freight Fuel Injection Test Pump Tester Kit (sumtin like dat) and some cheap quick disconnects, from eBay. You guys are welcome to borrow it anytime. I use it to check pressure occasionally. Works great. My 2018 had a split filter when it was new. Gauge showed 30 psi, ran like crap. When everything is working well it reads about 50-55 psi.
-
Wow, don't hear about fuel pumps failing that often. Thanks for sharing the research on the replacements. There is a lot of junk stuffed into the tank. Could be the pump, regulator, cracked filter, hole in a hose, etc. Were you able to determine what component failed? Sounds like you weren't able to get a pressure reading?

Tariffs on EU Motorcycles and Parts
amgems replied to amgems's topic in Important Issues, Environmental-Land Use Issues, Important Meetings & Local Information
I find it surprising that 17 people clicked the link to contact our elected officials on the Carnegie land sale and only (maybe) 1 or 2 did for this. I would think this to be more important to this audience, with all the European bikes and parts we buy. But I have been wrong before. Once. -

That's interesting. I didn't realize that. I assumed that the Senate would have to approve a ruling by ITC, and that is why The AMA generated letter is sent to our senators. I'll get on the phone and call The Donald right now. -

Thanks for taking action and helping to preserve my large investment, over the years, in the green sticker fund. -

Unlikely Fienstien or Harris would support this, but sending them a letter says we are motorcyclists and we are paying attention. -

Can't make this one. You boys don't cause no trouble, ya hear? -
Somebody posted something about thread repair the other day. I didn't get a chance to reply, and I think it got lost in the site fix. If you still need to chase / fix your threads, I have a thread repair kit. I'm in Poway and will be gone this morning, but will be back home by about noon. Let me know if I can help.
