Otay Truck Trail / Pink Gate Ride - Noob Friendly

Event details

A recent post has convinced me that we have some people unfamiliar with the "Pink Gate" area of Otay Truck Trail, so lets go ride a bit of it.  I will try to go scout it out a bit before the ride, I was out there before the rains and there were some washed out areas and rocks/ruts.  I'd say that it's "Noob Friendly" but if you're a new rider on a 600 pound bike you may not enjoy all of it.  There are areas that are intermediate+ but I will do my best to avoid those during this ride, I don't have fun on them on my big dual sport but if you do feel free to explore on your own.

Meet at the 7/11 gas station on Hwy 94 (By Brody's Burgers and Beer) around 0900 and be ready to roll at 0930.  Expect a few hours, slower pace with stops to BS and take pictures if you want.  I'm in no hurry, races are in the desert most Sundays if you want to go fast.

Dang, I'll miss this one due to a soccer tournament. I'll watch for the next one.

Well I thought that I had set this for Saturday, but I guess it's on Sunday.  Is everyone okay with a Sunday ride?  It works either way for me.....

I'm looking to make it if I don't have to be on call for work, Sunday is more likely to be open for me...

In a stroke of dumb luck I now notice that tntmo is the sherpa for the Otay Truck Trail trip.

As I alluded to in another thread, I will work to get my buddy around to the idea of making a day trip out of this.

Would love to meet you and whoever else attends.

Yes, Sunday.  I went out to pre-run a bit of it yesterday but realized that I probably brought the wrong bike.  Won’t make that mistake on the ride.

I rode from the pink gate to Pio Pico and back yesterday.

I was going to join this ride as I've never ridden anywhere south of the 94. But, a old coworker reached out to me a last week and asked if I wanted to check out the area.

I've been wanting to ride with this guy for a long time so I said yes. (Note to self, when a expert level rider says something is easy, don't believe it!)

If you stay on the main trail it's a bit rocky in places but OK. If you take any of the offshoots you may have to do some "off-piste" riding to get around the water.

For instance, down in the Hubbard Spring area the road is flooded and you have to make a track along the upper slope. It was ............challenging!

This ride has been my goal to get back out but I still can't walk unaided.   So close.   Have fun guys.

Daren:  You should have drank the beer before lifting the cooler.   Get better.

My bike is already dirty from the last ride so I’m ok with a little rain.  Worst case scenario is end it early and eat before noon, I’m ok with that!
