KTMrad 617 Posted February 16, 2010 Anyone have any suggestions on what we can do, in case the gas station in Ocotillo doesn't have any gas on Saturday ? I have to call later today to see if they'll have gas, guess they're having some type of permit issues. Gas truck rental ?? Options for legal gas dispensers for about 250-300 gallons ?? Riders WILL need gas at this stop, otherwise they'll be pushing the limit of making it back to Butterfield.
KLXBEN 0 Posted February 16, 2010 Seeley market in Seeley has gas. But that would be a 4or 5 mile backtrack from plaster city then all the way to Ocotillo. Seems do-able. If all else fails.
KTMrad 617 Posted February 16, 2010 Seeley market in Seeley has gas. But that would be a 4or 5 mile backtrack from plaster city then all the way to Ocotillo.Seems do-able. If all else fails. Thanks ! Is that on Evan Hewes or an exit off I-8 ? If they have to do that, I'd need directions to give to the riders. That would be a whole lot easier then paying for a gas truck to show up, I talked to D37 about what they do for the LA-B-V when they rent the gas truck, but if needed, I'm sure that's another solution. KTMrad 617 Posted February 16, 2010 Got the address........map says it's 9.7 miles from Plaster City. Oh well.....but it's the easiest emergency option for fuel.
hoss314 0 Posted February 17, 2010 Ed with So Co is a real nice guy and would have some good options as far as delivery truck etc. six one nine 843-7191 SoCo
socalhodaka 115 Posted February 17, 2010 You can do like what has been done at many events that I have been to, truck with trailer and a bunch of gas cans in the back. Mark your own with a ribbon or something so you know what one is yours, maybe have to pay the person to drive it to the spot and back.
dsfox 0 Posted February 17, 2010 After registration I'm free to help with whatever is needed, I'm glad to man the "gas station" BUT I won't have a truck there (taking motorhome, so not taking that full of gas cans)....if something can be arranged, I can drive
ADV Bum 207 Posted February 17, 2010 If we need I can use my truck and man a gas stop. Let me know!

Bbg.will 0 Posted February 17, 2010 i won't be at the dash this year (shoulder), but i've got two 5gal cans i can lend to the cause.
N2TM 0 Posted February 17, 2010 Got the address........map says it's 9.7 miles from Plaster City.Oh well.....but it's the easiest emergency option for fuel. The Ocotillo Texaco was out of fuel last Saturday and then we saw the Seeley pumps super busy as a result. Hope they have enough for everyone.
KTMrad 617 Posted February 17, 2010 Everyone has to remember to bring a full 5 gallon gas can with your name on it so it can be taken to the little town of ocotillo also this is where lunch is. There are plenty of people driving over there to set up for lunch. Put your name on your gas can.ALSO remember you will have to be full of gas SUNDAY morning when you leave camp. some of us may have to bring 2 full 5 gallon jugs. This is NOT an option. Do you know what the liability would be for carrying over 100 5 gallon gas cans and storing them somewhere ? We also cannot use one of your rigs to pump gas due to liability. If Ocotillo does not have gas, the ride will go 10 miles to Seeley for gas.
ADV Bum 207 Posted February 17, 2010 I dont think most people will need 5 gal. If you figure 2.5 per rider, we could ferry some gas 50-100 gal at a time as we need. This would eliminate the liability of carrying 500 gal.
KTMrad 617 Posted February 17, 2010 It is still not an option. Liability prevents this, and we are not designated as legal dispensers of large quantities of gasoline.j There are rules, laws and regulations regarding the dispensing of gasoline......and we will NOT be doing it. Also, most people don't have the "Safety Cans" that are the legal way of carrying and dispensing gas.
KLXBEN 0 Posted February 19, 2010 I just tried to call the Ocotillo Texaco. It took all day to google the number. They have 2 numbers 1 is disconnected and the other goes to some crazy lady on an answering machine. It sure looks dosent look good for a gas stop.-- And online all theyre gas prices say n/a. Weird. ---Bump---
KTMrad 617 Posted February 19, 2010 The Ocotillo gas station will NOT have gas. Just to make things clear about what I posted earlier, as a Club and Promoter, we cannot take the liability of transporting gas for people. But, for individuals, of course you can do as you please and will be responsible for any transporting and dispensing. If someone wants to transport a few gas cans for people, that's fine. Just please don't associate the transport and storage of the gas, with SDAR. Any riders who need gas will be directed to Seeley Market for gas, 10 miles east from Plaster City. All riders will be instructed to fill up at the Blu Inn so some of them will have enough to make it back to Butterfield.
