  1. HA! This is great. I typed "NZ" (another dream) instead of NV. Honest, I'm not a complete dope. Before I retired I ran a very responsible business! I just haven't grown up yet.
  2. I hear ya Vacman, and thanks for the thoughts. When I started the ride, wcgiv & his friend didn't say anything about my choice of bikes. By the end of the day, they were kind enough to have mentioned "250" about two dozen times! My plan was to choose the KLR because, with my road travels, I want (wanted?) something that I can do freeways to get around CA, AZ, & NZ, then to the rough stuff. Off road KLR is a handful for me. But also, the KLR sure can eat freeways. (I know. It's no Beemer. I also know I'd probably kill myself on one of those beauties.) Vibrations are good for you! Why buy a fancy chair? BTW, yes, I was wearing pretty good full gear. Thanks for that mention too. I always do ATGATT, even on short hops on the road.
  3. Good ride today Bill IMHO, I hope your opinion too. Glad you brought along Doug. Good to meet you both. SDAR, don’t think these guys who just bought the Suzy 650 (weeks ago) and Suzy 400 (days ago) are total n00bs. They have some motorcycling experience, and (wait for it…) they are mountain bicyclists! Give them engines and they are very capable. They must have been thinking, “Oh Wow! We can go up the hills faster! And we’re not even winded!” For myself, I was able to pick up a grapefruit on Palomar Truck Trail of all places. No wait a minute…that’s my left knee. Bill, thanks for the invite, watching out for me as a true n00b, and all the… er..ah…help picking up my bike. As in KLR650, not bicycle. Good day, guys. And Oracle, thanks for your input pre ride. It help confirm where we were heading. Vacman; Come on! With a Honda Civic! Well, actually YES! In fact because of a lot of 4-wheel experience I think one probably could get a sedan up here. I should have taken that instead of my “big” KLR650! Something about 155 LB (stupid diet) and being 5’8”.
  4. Just to confirm, the meet up is at Hwy 79 & 371 area, Rancho California RV Resort, correct? I'm really looking forward to this.
  5. Thanks for the post, invite, & 9:30 switch. I'm in Bill. Look forward to meeting you. Hopefully some other NoCo types can make it. We n00bs won't be boring...at least I'm always fun to watch!
  6. Hey Bill. I'm seriously considering changing my schedule for this if I can. I'm a long time street rider, just getting used to my new to me KLR650. Have you ridden these roads before, ie are you sure they're open? Would 9:30a work for you?
  7. V-Dog, thanks so much to you and yours for hosting the Saturday BBQ, as well as turning your home and yard into our rec area. Also, as Mr. JAJA notes, great to meet members of SDAR and others. Thanks also to Dave AKA "The Chef". He took a lot of heat for all of us most of the day, and did great work. Hope to see many more of you out on the rides.
  8. I'm loosed from some great family fun including street ride, but now back home for some SDAR fun. As a n00b, I've heard all of you are brave riders. But a party like this takes real guts. Thanks V-Dog for hosting and inviting so many. Lord willing I'll be there (coming solo) with some desert (the eating kind) and bev.
  9. Oh Man! DustOff, we've got to hook up. I would have loved to go on this ride. (Why do all the guys think getting up at 0-Dark Thirty is such fun?) I spent the afternoon & evening working on my new-to-me KLR650 setting it up (actually down...you'll see) to my liking. If I'd have finished I'd have been there. Well, the bike's done, need some check out rides to see what falls off. But then I'm tied up for the next two weeks. Soon after I hope you & I can hit Ramona.
  10. Thanks Wildwood! Easy to spend lots of time and bit 'o money on that site. Looks like a good set up on your helmet.
  11. Now I know why paulmbowers has the genius sign! Thanks for the link. I've been interested for years. How about an explanation of the Anza Borrego Pumpkin Patch?
  12. Hey You

    New North County Member

Thanks to all for the welcomes. Trophy Hunter, kind of you to notice my years of experience, but they’re on the street. So I’m basically good for nothing. (At least I don’t have to be paid to be good!) Uncle Champ, glad somebody else is aware of sand. So far, I hate it! (But it is softer to fall down on.) You caught my “big bike” reference to my KLR650. Ya, I know some of the Stars ride 1000s, 1100+, and 1200+, so the bike is really a mid-size. Also notice my Corbin Dual Platform seat. Basically, Corbin did a beautiful job of pulling vinyl over the bike’s backbone. (Seriously, Corbin makes some quality engineered seats.) And good advice! That’s what I need! Paulmbowers, thanks for the warning about BikeSlut. I can’t wait to hear what he’ll say about you. This is gonna be a fun ride. Still setting up this bike to suit me some, but hope to meet many of you in person.
  13. Hello SDAR. Thanks to the Pres. & ADV Bum for helping me join via computer. I hope to make my membership beneficial to all of us in some small way. My name is Chris (male). I live in North County. I've been riding street bikes for many years. About 5,000-miles per year. I still have a 750 Yamaha. I've been active in clubs with sailing (not government sponsored) and the desert with 4x4's, a buggy, and camping. About 2-months ago, looking to expand my riding, I bought a 2009 KLR650. The previous owner had it decked out with a lot of great accessories. I've added a Corbin Dual Platform seat (that's telling, isn't it!), tank pads, center stand lift handle, and replaced the Kawasaki Soft Side Top Case with a hard case. I'm a retired business owner, married to a wonderful understanding wife, have 2-kids, and a dog. I'd be boring if I wasn't crazy. As I'm learning to handle this dirt bike, I'm sure I'll be giving all of you a good time!
