I've been up to Coyote Flats a few times now, and thought I had explored most of the dirt roads, trails and dead-ends, but I found many more, much to my delight ! Some of them were a bit challenging, but I always enjoy that. :good:

After spending most of the day up in the Coyote Flats area and exploring every trail I could find, it was getting late in the day and time to head back down to Bishop. Packed up all my stuff onto the bike, for the next day would be time to hit the road and head home.

One more day left......and the adventure continues......

DAY 11

Dale had nothing to do today, so he wanted to ride a ways with me from Bishop. I wanted to do more dirt on the way home before hitting the long drone down Highway 395. We left Bishop and headed to Big Pine for breakfast, then towards Westgard Pass. As we were riding down the road, I saw something shiny go tumbling down the road behind Dale. I thought he hit something in the road, but then figured maybe it was something from his bike. So I turned around and looked for it....sure enough, I found his chrome exhaust tip laying on the side of the road. It was still hot, so I picked it up with a napkin and stuck it in the handle of the tankbag. When I saw Dale waiting on the side of the road, I pulled up and said "You lose something" ? Gave him the exhaust tip and he thanked me for stopping to pick it up for him.

We rode on to the dirt turnoff for Papoose Flat and Mazourka Canyon. I've done these trails before, but never in this direction so it would be a whole new perspective.

Heading into the backcountry again.....

Dale stopped to remove his homemade windbreak, it was getting warm.

Heading towards Papoose Flat, I remembered there was a canyon with some really deep, loose sand...but it wasn't bad this time....

We got to Independence, was time to celebrate the ride with Dale, we got a cold beverage and sat at a park for awhile. Then it was time for me to depart and head home.......saying goodbye for now, to my good friend Dale.

1133113370_isuxC-L.jpg

Going south on 395, I passed many trucks loaded with dualsport bikes from the D37 AMA Bishop Ride. At one point approaching Adelanto, the traffic was going 55 and it was the no-passing Safety Corridor......there was a powerline dirt road parallel to the highway, so I quickly turned off onto it.....soon I was going 60mph on the dirt road, keeping up with the traffic on the highway.......that was a BLAST ! Did that for a few miles before I had to merge back onto the highway.

Got into San Diego just before dark, and had to head to Sunset Cliffs for the sunset......

FYYFF ! :o

An awesome sunset at the end of an awesome trip !

2230 miles, lots of great off-road riding with great friends, lots of exploring......can't wait till the next one !

The End....and that's all I have to say about that.

Great photos and great Trip report Randy, it is truley awesome where you take that big bike to!!!!!! It was good to see that Dale and his bike are still going strong. I remember him explaining the mods he did to that bike. He was amazing and his demonstration of the push stick and it’s leverage was truly unique. Thanks for this report buddy.

Thanks Roger......Dale just bought a Honday XR650L from his local dealer. He is having a compression release put on it because that is how he likes to slow down going down steep hills.....he is old school about a lot of things.

He is in the process of "Dale-anizing" his Honda....it won't be the same bike when he's done with it !:coolio:

Guess I'll get to see it when I go prerun stuff with him in the spring for the Goldpoint Ride.
