KTMrad 507 Posted June 22, 2010 These pix are from a couple of years ago, but never posted them.......... Sometimes when working and we do destructive testing, I know I'll be getting off early from work......so I take my bike with me and get paid to go riding. One of those times, I was working in the Phoenix area and had my 950 with me. After work one of those days, I unloaded the 950 but got a late start.......I headed up a dirt road out of Scottsdale that went about 50 miles north and came out on the I-17, but since it was late and I would be in the backcountry in the middle of nowhere at night, I decided to head back after sunset instead of doing the entire route at night. My friend John in Scottsdale, he let me keep my 950 at his house while I was working that week........he has street bikes, but no dualsports........yet On this day, I got an early start in the mid-afternoon and headed east out of Phoenix to some dirt roads through the mountains Some good scenery out there in the backcountry..... High on Life.....again..........in the mountains Looking east towards a big reservoir The squiggly dirt road far below in the valley Ended up at Jake's for some grub, beverages and s$#t kickin' country fried and southern fried rock..........cool band ! After a great time with the locals at Jake's, I had to hit the highway for the ride back to Scottsdale at night..... While still in Scottsdale, John, Jim and I headed out to a couple of biker bars in Scottsdale after work one day. We stopped at a scooter shop, Jim and his other friend were thinking of getting these Burgman 500 - 4 stroke scooters and travelling cross country on them.......they never ended up doing that trip. John on one of the scooters...... Jim....... A couple of mini-choppers...... Acme Bar & Grille I really liked the pooch, she was so cute Another biker bar......this place gets packed with bikes on the weekends...... Left to right, me, Jim and John......I met them at work and found out they ride, and we became friends.....Jim has a bunch of motorcycles and a few classic cars, quite an interesting guy..... More to come............
KTMrad 507 Posted June 22, 2010 Later in the week, I hooked up with a bunch of Phoenix area riders from ADVrider. We met outside Phoenix off the I-17 and headed up towards Lake Pleasant then up the mountain to Crown King. Then planned an overnighter to Prescott, and I rode some trails the next day with a local from Prescott. He was real hesitant about taking me on some trails since I was on my 950, but soon he found out I could handle all the trails he threw at me and after seeing what the 950 can do, he said he wanted to get one..........we had a blast..... I can't find the photos from up at Crown King and the next day in Prescott and my solo ride back to Scottsdale. Here's the first part of the group......since this is from a couple years ago, I forgot everyone's names..... This was cool........a gal riding a Russian Ural, with her dog as navigator The rest of the group where we met up after hitting the dirt..... We headed up the rougher, more challenging route to Crown King, while the gal in the sidecar and a few others took the easier route on main dirt roads. Here's some pix from the rougher, rocky sections............. Takin' a break after some rough sections........... ONe of the guys on a Dakar 650 has an OOPS moment.......... Another rider helps him pick a line through these rocks........ First attempt.......... Second attempt......YES, he made it ! A popular route, lots of quads and other bikes on this trail........ I think I ended up giving him a push through here..... Another rider on a "girlie bike"..... Another rocky section.......I had a blast on the 950 through this stuff..... That's all the photos I can find, even though I had more from Crown King, lunch, then the ride to Prescott and the next day back. Maybe somehow I can retrieve them from my old computer that crashed. The End.
