Ken S 164 Posted November 15, 2018 First symptom- bike wouldn’t shift into 6th. Couldn’t lift shifter. 15 miles later it’s stuck in first 20 miles from the truck. Going to be a long slow ride. 1 mile later it’s lets me hit 2nd then 3rd. Almost to the truck it’s shifting fine. Get it home it’s stuck in 1st. Wasnt low on oil. Never had Rotella in it. Recluse. 130 hours of hard use. Its with Thomas E. He hasn’t tore it down yet. Any ideas what’s up? Glad I kept my Wr450f as a spare.

robertaccio 405 Posted November 15, 2018 something in the transmission..........................shift drum, shift forks, shaft return load spring, shifter dogs.......yes its your transmission, but hopefully find issue in the secondary cover without splitting the main case. I've had the spring get screwed up and cause similar issue, no case split needed. Item 10 on the 2018 500exc-f fiche is the entire shift shaft assy, my reference fail was the item 7 return spring. The Dr. will solve it what ever level of repair it gets to .
tntmo 887 Posted November 15, 2018 Should have used Rotella. Shift drum/detent roller issue is my guess?

Ken S 164 Posted November 18, 2018 Bolt backed out going into the shift hub. $75 and it’s fixed. Thomas said KTM installed it without Locktite.

robertaccio 405 Posted November 19, 2018 The Doc is freelance from home now. He is one of the few the people outside of my MXGP/MotoGP mechanic/ crew chief friends that I would hand my bike to for any type of service or maintenance.
