Exploring Otay Mountain (#1) Sunday 1/7 – Geared for Noobs & Big Bikes

Recommended Posts

Location: Otay Mountain
Date: Sunday 1/7
Time: 9:00AM to Mid Afternoon
Experience Level: Novice (more experienced welcomed too)
Terrain: Easy-Slightly challenging
Motos: plated bikes, all sizes welcomed

Otay Mountain, she’s a beauty and she’s right in our own backyard! This is the first in series of Sunday rides that I’m planning at Otay Mtn. There's a ton to explore from vistas, canyons, trails, to bunkers, crashed helicopters, radio towers, and more. The idea is to check out something different on each ride. These rides will be noob friendly on easy-to-slightly-challenging terrain. The intention is explore Otay Mountain and gain more experience. Most of the riding will be on gravel roads with an occasional deviation to explore some noob / big bike friendly single tracks. We will only take trails that everyone is comfortable with. Riders of all experience levels are welcomed.

Ride #1 - Mine Canyon, Border Loop, Towers, & Bunkers:
The plan for the first ride is to meet up at 9 AM in Eastlake and take Otay Lakes Rd to the Pio Pico entrance. You can also meet up at Pio Pico if you’re coming from another direction. From there ride up the truck trail to Doghouse Junction, head east toward Donohoe Spring, then south towards Mine Canyon. If the gates are open take the truck trail westward along the border then back up towards the Doghouse again. If the gates are closed we can circle back. Along the way we can stop to check out few trails, the radio towers, bunkers, and have lunch. I’ll be creating a google map as general point of reference but the ride will be open to changes as we go. We’ll be stopping along the way to take in the views, explore sites, eat, etc.

Tentatively in. Going wine tasting with the wife & her friends saturday so that should earn me a sunday hall pass. Never been to Otay Mtn so I would like to follow.  9 am in Eastlake... where is the meeting point?

The car wash is near the Target / mall parking area. Lots of empty spaces but I am not sure if they could hassle you.

There's plenty neighborhood streets that you can park at around the gas station too.
