KTM Rear Wheel Bearing Service

Recommended Posts

I had an old '64 Matchless. It had zerk fittings on the wheels. I used to pump grease in there until it came squirting out of the seals. I always figured if a little is good, more is better. Never had a failure.

http://www.pivotworks.com/ProductInfo.aspx?item_id=52221 Pivot Works makes spacers that have an o-ring seal around the axle, which makes some sense, as the seal we've been discussing seals to the outside surface of the spacer. But water can still get past the INSIDE where the axel goes through the spacer, which would allow water incursion towards the inside of the bearings.

Interesting.

And here: http://www.pivotworks.com/ProductInfo.aspx?item_id=5587 is their entire kit with the slightly extra-wide bearings that discards the circlip.

I have the Pivot Works in my 06 525. I changed the stock bearings after about a year and have had the Piviot Works in ever since.

Removed the cir-clip and cleaned with sandpaper.  Will be keeping close eye on bearings.

Replaced the spacers and grease seals - Bearings  show no side motion at 5000 and change miles.
