KTMrad 507 Posted November 28, 2017 On the way to Key West across all the Key Islands, there was lots of debris lining the roads from the cleanup efforts after Hurricane Irma....this was along the entire route from Key Largo to Key West.....devastation in certain areas. And some pix of FEMA temporary houses lined up for transport down to the Keys for residents who lost their homes. Camping prices ridiculous, not much camping available after the hurricane, plus rain last night and on/off for today, so for $30 more than a campsite, got a nice room on the beach. Doc finds a stick everywhere we go and can't resist the water.

Fargoin 6 Posted November 28, 2017 Randy, there are a few walk up only sites on Long Key that are great. No water or electricity but much cheaper and better than the other spots in the area. You basically camp on a paddock about a foot off the sand with a canopy over you. If you need a spot on your way back up check it out. Ask for the walk up spots at the gate. Also, this. I used to camp off the bike in all sorts of weird places in the keys. https://www.notaguidebook.com/how-to-free-camping-in-the-florida-keys
KTMrad 507 Posted November 29, 2017 Thanks for the tip. All State Parks and many areas closed due to storm damage.
Dan Diego 40 Posted November 29, 2017 I stay at NAS Key West when I'm there. Quality, inexpensive lodging if you're retired military or otherwise qualify to stay on DOD bases.
