The wife & I got away for a week of camping at Sherwin Creek Campground, bringing along the Triumph Tiger for some 2Up touring, as well as the little bikes. We posted about 180 mi. over a couple days on the big bike checking out Crowley Lk., Tom's Place, Mammoth Lakes and the June Lk. loop. I also got in about 200 mi. on the Husky 310, including a 99 mile day with Amber on her quad all the way to Mono Lk. and back.  Perfect weather, with temps at 75/45 and just a little rain on Wednesday.  It seems like I'm seeing more designated single track laid out in the local trails around Mammoth, which was nice. Superb place to spend some time, highly recommended area.

A lot of prime beef being fed in the area. I encountered a large group of cattle along a road not far from here, some of which had gotten through the fence & on to the road. As I was almost past the group, one particular steer still inside the fence split from the rest and began pacing along next to me a little spooked. As I tried to speed up and pass him, the dang thing started racing me and then jumped the fence (to my utter amazement) and cut right in front of me. It was like 'holy sh*t' as I panic lockup on the brakes, I've never seen that before. Never let your guard down.

On Friday we had a good 99 mi. ride out to Mono Mills, then over to Mono Lake to see some Tufa Pillars. From there it was over to June Lk. to gas up and make our way back to camp.

Great report.  Took my kids up there fishing many years ago.  I've always wanted to go back with a bike.  Definitely have to make that happen now.

Hey Wildwood, that is GREAT!  Well done.  Nice report. Sure would have liked camping near you on that trip.  Having your gal on a quad seems like a good idea (besides that fact that those quads can easily carry picnics and cold ones - smiles) . That area is so nice!  cheers.

Thanks, this was a really good time. The last few visits prior included the Bulesapalooza. This time I was able to get much more riding in, really got to know the area better.

Amber tried a bike, epic fail. Better going 2Up with her, and she rips on a quad. I've learned you can get away with quite a lot of side of the road transitions to trails up here.  It's such a great family vacation spot. We drove out to Bodie for a tour of the old Standard Stamp Mill, and got in a day of fishing up at Convict Lk. as well.

Dig the Eastern Sierras.  If you have a chance, look back on Riggerdan's ride report when he spent a long time there.  Some great pics in that.

Good report. We went up there 2 weeks ago and I'll be going back through at the end of Sept. The June Lake Loop is outstanding.

were there fish?

are there pics of "epic fail"?

Everywhere but on my hook.  I think that's why they call it fishing and not catching.

As for the epic fail, no pics.  I should keep this in the family, but she doesn't have an account so....if I hear about it, I know where it came from. <_<

She crashed getting the bike up off the kickstand. Not a good start.  But you would have a hard time keeping up with her on a quad out in Glamis. Better to stick with what suits you.

I'll check it out Mikey.  Some guy I met up there was raving about Coyote Flats, need to find that too.  The eastern Sierra is always a good time, it has plenty to offer, hard to beat.

Great write up. Thanks. That's one of my favorite vacation spots. I love to ride the trails north of Mammoth Lakes. They just go and go forever. We usually go up there at least twice a year. Spring and fall. Fishing is great! Lots to see in the surrounding area. I use to mountain bike that area, but to old now. Ha ha.
