Do you have any regrets???

Recommended Posts

For some reason, I just became interested in this topic. I've talked to a couple different people about it recently. Some people claim they have no regrets in life. Other admit them. I'm not sure I believe that an individual can honestly say they have no regrets. There's got to be some, right??!!

I have regrets. Things I wish I had done differently. Like panicking during the great recession and selling a rental property I owned near the beach in Encinitas. I was loosing $200 or $300 (minimal, right?) bucks a month cash flow on the property and decided to dump it for $700k because I thought things were going get worse. Now just 7 years later the property is worth $1.4mm.

Damn, I wish I would have sucked it up and ate the $200 per month loss. That would have bought a lot of motorcycles.

I think this all boils down to one's attitude and how one looks at things. Sure, there are things I've done in life where I screwed up, should've have done things differently, etc, etc.

But, I have a great life, I've been living out my childhood dreams ( on my 50th birthday, I thought about what my dreams were when I was a kid, and I realized WOW, I've been living out my dreams for years, thought that was really cool ), I am happy and have travelled many miles on my motorcycle and seen many places....and that's just about to get even better.

So regrets ?  Not really. Perhaps if I had met the right woman to have 1 or 2 kids with, that would've been great....but never met that right woman, and I'm a happy single guy with nobody to answer to and now I'm able to go travel the world.

OK, I did think of one....I never got a chance to get to the Czech Republic with my father before he passed away....I never got to here his detailed stories about what he did in the underground against the Germans first, then against the Russians, then his escape from the KGB at his parents house, how the Germans during WWII forced teenagers to work in their factories on their military machine, my Dad was one....and all the details about those early years of his life. I know there are many things he never shared with us, that he probably would've told me about if we had gone on that trip together to Czech Republic. So that is one I could get bummed about, but oh well...it didn't happen so life goes on.

Personally,,, That Tattoo 1:00am Manilla in '73.

                Haaa -

Actually was discovering Western Liberal Culture at UCLA.

Biggest Regret,  is missing out on that camp north of Moab in the rain on a two track, staying friends with my riding buddies.  Wait, we worked through that and walked bar to bar in Havasu two days later.  Turns out I'm Good.

Allright then, Rob, pony up!

Regrets? Plenty.

In the motorcycle vein one has to be when racing the mint 400 and my buddy suggested that I check the flywheel nut again but I told him I had already done that.......halfway thru the race and I sheared the flywheel key :(

I have lot's of regrets. But lessons learned early and survived steer your later reactions, which lead to more survival, hopefully. And one good home run can heal a lot of bad decisions, you just got to keep diggin'

Racing is a great teacher......

Yeah plenty but this might have been the worst - not grabbing Motorcycle.com, Weather.com, Fishing.com, Porn.com (lol) etc. domain names for pennies when the WWW went public 26 years ago today :)

We all have done things we wish life had a rewind button for, but in the end a wise person chalks it up to lessons learned and goes forward to try to do better the next time.

I regret getting married, most of the relationships I have been in, selling my 125 Maico, 360 Bultaco Frontera, not taking a serious look at what I should have done with my life and talents.  I could go on and on, but I won't.

No regrets.I feel blessed in my life so far. I have flown under the radar all of my life. But if you ask me 10 years from now I might be singing the blues about my lack of planing for retirement !.

We all make mistakes and have ups/downs.......hopefully they level out over time........one big regret I have is not planning/saving/investing earlier in life.......to Kug's point, my retirement will be comfortable but I'll be forced to move out of state to afford it........likewise, I have many friends who've retired before 60 and I'll likely be slaving in the coal mines until I'm 65......which is kind of bummer because that means I'm unable to take those "weeks/months" long motorcycle adventures for another ~6 years.......the upside is I'll be retired when my three, soon to be four, grandchildren are still under 10yrs old.........Ying/Yang balance..........there's ALWAYS an upside and we're ALL very blessed to lead the lives we have.......life is good :thumbsup_anim:

Love the flair of Italian bikes (and cars) and love the classic Husky brand.......but after my first KTM, a 1991 300EXC, My regret,  I should have never left the KTM brand, I would have maintained a lot more smiles per mile.....I would have even more plastic trophies on the shelf as well.

Before the first KTM for full on dirtbikes it was KDX200, Swede Husky 510TX, ATK 406 then 1st kato KTM300EXC, KTM250EXC, a list of Italian Huskys all 4 stroke (the 2 stroke ones were Cagiva based and good), then back to KTM.....OK under the Husky brand 2014 TE300 and now the best thing ever the TX300 no regrets here. Should have waited for the FI...nope no regrets I love the Mikuni TMX for its utmost simplicity.

I should have concentrated on money and long range thinking but I wasn't going to live past 35 or so, then I did. I don't regret hang gliding, fast skating in Balboa park, body surfing big waves, fast bikes, racing, certain illegal things, that was all fun. I do regret the broken body parts, my lack of a college degree, and that blonde that got away. Well maybe more than one that got away. Of course I could have spent more time with family members that are gone now, but hey things are getting better the older I get.

Definitely on the upswing on many fronts, the things I am thankful (especially my daughter) for far outweigh the negative.

I'm glad to wake up every day.

I'll always regret not trying out for High School baseball, I didn't think I was good enough.

But I'll never know, I wasn't bad.

It's interesting to hear everyone's input, thanks for responding.

For the record, I don't dwell on my regrets, just being honest that I have a few. Oh, I have one of those tattoos too. And not finishing college after putting in two years (Thinking about going back actually), oh, and the broken bones that are haunting me now....Thanks for the reminders... :-)

I know several of you guys personally and it seems like we are all happy people for the most part. I'm sure a lot of that has to do with our passion for riding. So I say we all keep braaaping on until the day we're gone!

Peace,

The Oracle
