Public comments needed!

SDORC believes in working with the government in public processes. There are two actions taking place now that the public can weigh in on through comments.

First, State Parks wants to limit foot travel in natural and cultural reserves and preserves. How does that effect us? For example, there are interesting areas in thousands of acres in Anza Borrego Desert State Park that might be closed. Part of the fun in off-roading is getting out and walking around. Please go to:
and comment on their proposed changes. Note: The comment period closes at 5 pm on Wednesday, May 31, 2017!

Second, there have been many National Monuments created over the years without any public input. The Trump administration has asked the Department of Interior (BLM) to take comments from the public on all National Monuments created since 1996 over 100,000 acres. The one that affects us the most is the Mojave Trails National Monument. Designated early last year by Obama with no public input, this 1.2-million acre monument is southeast of Interstate 15 in the Mojave desert. There are thousands of miles of trails and dirt roads that are at risk of closure when the management plan is created. While there may be areas worth protecting, we feel drawing a circle around an area that large is not the answer. You can read about how to comment here:
Note the comment button in the upper right.

To ensure consideration, written comments relating to the Bears Ears National Monument must be submitted before May 26, 2017. Written comments relating to all other National Monuments must be submitted before July 10, 2017.
Thanks for help in the never-ending battle to keep public lands open for the public!
