Pacific Crest Trail Article

The Bakersfield Californian just released an article about how Off Road Vehicle Trespass on the PCT was been blown out of proportion by ORV Watch. Be sure to read the three sidebars.

Keyesville Trail Work Day March 11th

Help is needed preparing for the upcoming Keyesville Classic Mountain Bike Race and the High School Mountain Bike Race. On March 11th the SoCal NICA is hosting a trail work day for the Keyesville Classic Trail that will be used for both events in March. They plan on meeting at the Keyesville race staging area at 9 and then head out onto the trail from there. They will have some tools but feel free to bring your favorite digging tool with you if you have one. Also bring your mountain bike or dirt bike as there may be some time to ride after the trail work done! This work will benefit both the Keyesville Classic race being hosted by SSFTA as well as the NICA high school racers.

Remington Hot Spring Trail

Remington Hot Springs are enjoyed by locals and visitors from around the world. An important trail improvement project took place last week when volunteers from Friends of Remington Hot Springs teamed up with Stewards of the Sequoia. Working with Forest Service Bob Frenes and Democrat Fire Crew they installed 126 feet of peeler post railing to block numerous short cut trails as well as planting over 40 trees to beautify the area. The project was sponsored in part by L&M Lumber.

Due to long term efforts by Friends of Remington Hot Springs, the Forest Service recently officially recognized the Hot Spring trail. This bodes well for the future of Remington Hot Spring which the Forest Service had not long ago threatened to demolish. Many thanks to Janet Thompson and George Townsend and all the Friends of Remington Hot Springs volunteers for their decades of tireless work to keep the area clean and maintained.

Remington Hot Springs will probably not be available for soaking until perhaps July due to flooding by the high Kern River outflows from Lake Isabella Dam in this very wet year.

SPOTLIGHT ON LOCAL BUSINESS

CYCLESMITHS opened their doors in Kernville five years ago

They do excellent repair work on both street and dirt motorcycles as well as ATV's, UTV's at competitive rates. Owners Mike and Wendy will match almost any internet price. I had been trying to order a special handgrip and not one other shop or mail order could find it. I asked Wendy to order it and she had it the next day at a great price. I agree why drive down the hill.

Check out their site http://www.beyondthegarage.com/

You'll love getting internet pricing without sacrificing local support and quality service. Don't forget to ask for your 10% Stewards discount. They are small shop, but they work very hard, just like Stewards.
