Santo Tomas to San Quintin ride report

Recommended Posts

Ten of us trucked it down to Santo Tomas on Friday, Sept 30 for a weekend of Baja fun.  We had seven bikes -- including one big fat mama -- and two razors as chase vehicles.  We rode to San Quintin and back.  First night we stayed at El Palomar hotel (aka the Jake Brake Hotel).  Nice bar and food.

Saturday morning we got up early, left the trucks at the hotel and headed for the coast.  Easy ride all the way to the beach, where the clouds made for some misty conditions along the ocean.

Advantages to having chase razors:

Our leader Kai really knows the trails.  We headed inland and found some sunshine.

Stopped for lunch at Pirate's Cove along the way.

We hit low tide for the beach run.  Nice 60MPH for about 20 miles on the sand.

Nice accommodations at Hotel Jardines Baja.  Highly recommended for the rooms and bar/restaurant next door.

Big fat mama slabbed it back to Santo Tomas and I escorted, where we loaded up the truck for the drive back to the three-hour border wait at San Ysidro.

Those who rode the beach route back north to Santo Tomas missed the low tide, making for an interesting ride on the rocks in some areas.  Thick sand is all over this ride as well.  No major injuries for the trip.

Really, really super ride!  Not my first time to Baja, but certainly one of the most memorable.

What time of day would be best to catch the low tide to pass via beach?

Hey, was wondering when you were going to surface on the site? How was your day going up to Idyllwild?  I saw your friend pass me on the GS as I headed home.

Awesome Baja weekend for you guys !

I've ridden on that beach and been caught on those rocks. There are miles of those smooth rocks on the shore now.

I guess my favorite "being caught on the high-tide line" story is "Angola: It's not like they said" on ADV. Life changing. Not to be missed.

It was fun day. We hit some pretty soft stuff on the way up and then stopped for lunch in Idyllwild. As our food was coming the heavens opened up. Talk about timing.

Perfect. Thank you

By chance you happen to know Jerry J. from Canyon Lake. I ride with him sometimes. We haven't ridden in a while. I think he's off Wildcat Canyon Rd or something?
