Thoughts on knee scooters?

Recommended Posts

I'm having some ankle surgery done on Tuesday and will be out of commission for a while. My doc has insisted that I keep all weight off of my ankle for about 90 days.

Am looking at the knee scooters to get around. Who has used one and what do you recommend? Do I need an all terrain version? Are there any particular models to stay away from?

The basket is a must, for alcohol-related items, though the little "ding ding" is optional...

RJ at AA KTM can get me an orange one plated for only $3500, so that's a possibility....

Thanks in advance.

Cup holder for "drinks" and basket for everything else. Was a life saver for me.

One of the girls in our office has a daughter who had major foot surgery.  Same deal as you...no pressure on the foot for 3 months.  She was in a wheelchair initially and then transitioned to a knee scooter after a couple weeks. Made a world of difference for her mentality.

I think you should mount a dune flag on it.

You'll need an MT43 on the rear...

Don't forget the e-start and the rekluse.  It would be a bitch to kickstart with one leg.

Lots of good ideas here, knew I could depend on this group for help.

Dune flag: Check.

Motor: Check (4 stroke; don't wanna disturb the neighbors with early morning 2-stroke BRAP! And the blue smoke in the house with bother my dogs.)

Tires and oil: That will be an entitrely different thread.

Basket, cup-holder and bell: Check, check, check. You'll hear me ding-dinging at MotoWorld and All American KTM soon.

All that's left is the doohickey mod, new grips and some aftermarket illumination and I'm good to go.

Calling PMB: Will need help with the ABS and GPS install, too.

Dammit! I'm $4k into this project and I haven't even bought it yet! Thanks, fellas...

4 stroke is a bad idea.  The braking compression will cause handling and support issues on deceleration.

What are you thinking for lighting ????

Something extremely bright. Perhaps some HID lights from TouraTech.

To ensure I can see and be seen....while rolling down my driveway to get my mail.

The compassion from this group is startling. I've had a, "walk it off" and a, "suck it up" in the past hour.
