USB - 12VDC Yaesu Cable??

Recommended Posts

Hey gang,  Have you seen an SAE to  270R radio charging cable.  Headed to HRO tomorrow on the lookout.

I have a round BMW plug on the dash that can supply a double 5vdc usb power adapter or straight 12vdc to a flat SAE cable. Planning on charging camera, phone and radio as needed on camping outings.

        Thanks

Edited Sept 13.   The original language was confusing 12 and 5vdc systems.  No such thing as a 5 volt to 12vdc usb adapter.

I've not seen one- USB is 5volts and the Yaesu wants 12, I believe.

Interesting- the Yaesu will not allow transmission while on the AC charger, but WILL on the 12v charger. Exactly how it tells them apart is the mystery- same charging port.

The BMW/EURO receptacle is connected via fuse from 12 volt battery.  The Powerlet Adapter converts 12 vdc to USB 5 vdc.

(  Or whatever USB is )   USB chargers phone, camera.  SAE cable is spliced to Yaesu right angle 12 vdc connector.

I had held off on purchasing the BMW to USB for quite awhile, but getting rid of the cigarette lighter plug helped me decide.

$49 without discount at San Diego BMW.

Update:  The Powerlet adapter pictured above had an Intermittent fail feature, so stay away from that unit. Geoff at San Diego BMW happily replaced the unit with another option, the Optimate 105 USB Charger - $28.  Works fine, similar design.
