A Quick & Easy Super Bowl ride: Otay Mountain Truck Trail

Recommended Posts

Had a fine day of riding the Otay Mountain Truck Trail with The Oracle, AKA: LB.

After some Rancho San Diego Starbucks java, we headed east on the 94, then west at Otay Lakes to enter the trail near the Pio Pico RV park. There wasn't much traffic at all...just some hikers, some mountain bikers and a dozen Border Patrol Agents.

The weather was perfect and views of Mexico and San Diego were super clear.

We stopped for a few photos of the great views and of the border fence. We saw a few other dualsporters midway through (like SDAR types) and then exited the trail near the RJ Donovan state prison.

Fun stats:

Number of times "someone" dropped his bike: 1 (thanks, LB).

Broken mirror perches from above low-speed drop: 1 (no photographic evidence= it never happened).

Number of times we were scolded by BP Agents for being in a restricted area: 1 (sorry, LB).

Number of locked gates encountered: 0.

Potential cross-border drug tunnels we spotted from way up on the mountain: 26 (possibly 27).

A very nice, quick & easy ride before the big game.post-14554-0-75495300-1454885684_thumb.j

I have the stand-alone mirror perches and it's easily replaceable. I bought a couple of sets on eBay for $6. Easy peasy.

When the stock ones go, so does your master cylinder.

I do want the DoubleTake or Acerbis mirrors.post-14554-0-22508400-1454891574.jpeg

Sorry we missed you out there, as you said Dan, it was extremely clear today.

No Dan, only two crusty old dudes ( sorry Rick ), and two young wippersnappers! We never saw any adv. bikes otherwise we would've wheelied past you. At least the other three would have.

Was the trail that went south to the border fence the one that the Border Patrol has issue with?

Yeah, probably. The BLM gate.
