kkug 146 Posted October 20, 2015 So the plan was hatched - E mails went out - confirmations come in - New bikes were bought-a date was set and away we went. Four of us Me ,CID,Cosmo,Bagster took a 880 mile spin of the Northern NV backcountry. Due to unfortunate circumstance we were down to three after day one .Bagster encountered a nasty gash on his arm and being that medical care in Northern NV is counted by miles ( hundred + ) not minutes he decided to take care of himself so he can ride another day. We were bummed to see him go after all the effort he put in to go on the ride. A few years back we rode the North Western part of NV and some of CA . This time we rode more of the North Central part and went into OR. and ID. Verry remote and sparse with sections of Mtn. riding. The weather was perfect .The nites were chilly. Sunshine for all of our trip until our last few hrs. No flats ,no issues ,just riding ,enjoying the backcountry, and camping at nite. Day One . We started at Lovelock, had lunch in Gerlach and camped out along a dirt runway in Denio Junction. Bagster slept with his new gal ! We rode across the Black Rock Playa to the Ca trail . Temecula Tim 0 Posted October 20, 2015 Wow- I really want to ride that area - full of great history. Out of State work has allowed me to Moto-Cowboy bits of the Overland Stage Route route from Las Cruces NM into the Tuscon area on the weekends. Next Month- I will be back in NM section riding the Trail from Las Cruces North to Santa Fe along the Camino Del Diablo ( and sneaking in some of the NMBDR where I think it might be). The Pony Express Trail is also high on my list and that should get me up in that area some day. Thanks for sharing!!!

Covered in Dust 162 Posted October 20, 2015 Always a good place to start an adventure. I found a web site that led us to this. http://www.atlasobscura.com/places/guru-road There are some really strange places all around us if you take the time to look for them. Bagstr 287 Posted October 21, 2015 Well, The Kug gathered we Adventurers around and laid out a plan to Explore the border lands around Nevada, Oregon and a touch of Idaho thrown in the mix. The Leader calls we saddle up and Go. Since I was continuing north I drove separately. Because my design was to have a leisurely journey my start was a day early and because hotels were full and or expensive, I stayed in Gardinerville and enjoyed small town Saturday night. Cruised through Carson City for Sunday morning entertainment, Nice town and the whole valley surrounded by mountains and filled with hay and cattle, quite pleasant. Rolled into the quiet town of Lovelock about 2pm and set up camp at the C-Punch Hotel/Bar/Casino. Reviewed my set-up and had the beer cold when Ken, Chris and Tracy rolled later to Start the Party! Not much better than good friends, cold beer and a big trip ahead. We set off 8 ish as I remember, loaded with our 35lbs + of gear. Takes awhile to settle in on a slick road with the load. Gerlach lunch and a full fuel load then the journey really began. Across the Playa with a bearing toward Black Rock Spring, 35 miles. The playa was hard / soft and dry / damp as your go. Twist the throttle and trust to your luck. After exploring the Hot Springs we struck off north across the highly eroded Hardin City Trail toward Soldier Meadow. The Hardin City Trail is two track with many perpendicular cuts to catch you out if not wary. Murphy, I believe is her name greeted us at Soldier Meadows. She runs the bunk house and her husband wrangles the cattle over tens of thousands of acres. She was very welcoming and as a side note there was gas staged for travelers. The day was getting on and so did we. Up to the higher elevations, 7000 ft or so over the top and down to Onion Reservoir. As the light was fading and shadows lengthening, I was having trouble getting good looks at the two track. As I am aging or just my vision, I have trouble with the sun and shadows at the end of the day. There I was sliding along the hard rocky two track having caught a little hard mud curb with my front tire. Bloodied Up, my trip just changed. All in good fun! Cosmo 10 Posted October 21, 2015 Didn't take many pictures and the ones I did pretty much look like the others. Thanks to the kugs, our amazing trail boss for putting this all together. The long dusty trails provided a feeling of being remote in a way I've never really experienced. It seemed like no matter where we were, we were a hundred miles from nowhere! Really bummed we lost the Bagster so early in the trip. The camaraderie, breathtaking views, star filled nights and the amazing off grid feel is what I will remember most about this trip! Bagstr 287 Posted October 21, 2015 " Is Bagstr ok? " That is a matter of opinion. My expensive armor is rather loose fitting below the elbow, allowing it to rotate. In this case my forearm took the majority of the interact with the dirt two track. A little hamburger in the making. There is a story and it will be told later today. MacDuncan 131 Posted October 22, 2015 Cosmo: The camaraderie, breathtaking views, star filled nights and the amazing off grid feel is what I will remember most about this trip! Nicely said Cosmo- an essential understanding! Lots of great stuff about a trip like that!!! Great sounding adventure guys!! Hope Bagstr recovers quickly! As the "action" topics subside, it would also be appreciated to hear some opinions and reflections about the bikes (models with mods, farkles, set-ups) Items you should have brought, items you didn't really need, luggage configurations, etc. , worked great, or not so great, must haves, communications, etc. You guys have been on some great outings and I am always willing to learn from some veterans and change gear, and even bikes, as I am always prepping for the next BDR, or any backcountry outing. Cheers.
