Got me a new ride! 2005.5 KTM 950 Adventure

Recommended Posts

My akropovic cans have these in http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002OPRCAU/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?qid=1435696638&sr=8-3π=AC_SY200_QL40&keywords=fmf+spark+arrestor&dpPl=1&dpID=31KcOunZGEL&ref=plSrch

came with them when I bought bike but I also saw a thread on advrider or a youtube video can't remember where someone showed you how to do it but they basically slide right in with little sanding.

Perfect! Let's see if I can get the seller to come down a bit on the price . . .

In other news, Brown Santa showed up today. He brought my motorbike some longer legs!!

Now I need to call George to arrange to have them refreshed.

And DONE. The Akro pipe is on its way to me. Oh boy!! Now I just need a mid-pipe and an Adventure Tank.

If you are going to use an adventure tank and KTM OEM pannier racks with your hard cases (I see them on the floor), there is a fitment issue. The rack blocks access to the gas cap (ask me how I know) and you cannot easily get it off, especially after the tank swells/expands. There is a string on it on advrider. You will have to cut, move, and re weld the rearmost rack supports on the left side of the bike.

Thanks for that. I saw that during my research. Luckily, I know a guy who can easily modify the rack for me. I also have a line on a bracket that ties the tank to the rack to prevent it from bending or flexing inwards.

In other news, the high fender kit should be showing up today!

Today I had planned on getting a lot done on the bike. That didn't happen. Late start, wiring dyslexia, etc. So all I ended up doing was getting the P3 lights hooked up, installed the tail plate for my top box (when/if I use it for commuting) and a general once over of things. Wiring of the P3's took a bit more time than anticipated as I had to figure a good location for the controller and wanted the wiring to be very clean. So this is what I ended up with:

And they work!!

Oh, and I went over to visit Jamie at Clairemont Cycle Supply to pick up some CNC goodness!! :drool

So that's it for a short while. I'm going to ride it as it is, just to get a feel for it and enjoy some V-twin goodness.

I'm going to have the "S" suspension rebuilt by Suspension101. Once that's done, I'll do a serious tear-down and install the new suspension, damper and sub-mount, high-fender, 2 into 1 exhaust and Adventure tank and re-do the wiring in the front of the bike. Can't wait...

I have a neat little Rottweiler Racing kit for the fork guards in a high-fender conversion if you're not ABS.

Cheap.

Yut Ughh and I spent the better part of yesterday working on the 950 and drinking beer. And eating.

Here's how things looked before the carnage began:

Then we started pulling panels off:

kVNDzv.jpg

A comparison of the old versus new forks. I upgraded from my stock 950 forks and shock to forks and shock from a 950 "S" which gives me an extra 1 1/2" of travel front and rear. I took them to George at Suspension101 and had him work his full magic on them. New springs, new valving, new seals, new oil, etc. Can't wait to try them out!!

Before installing the forks, we had to install the BRP upper triple tree and Scotts sub mount.

Before:

Re-greasing the bearings too

After:

Getting the ignition switch off the old triple tree proved to be a HUGE pain in the ass. Instead of the security screws we expected, we found two rivets made of some material that was just a bitch to remove. But we persevered.

We also installed the rear shock, but no pictures of that for some reason. We also started on the new brake lines for the high fender but started talking about his upcoming Alaska trip and drinking beers . . .

More later today . . .

Today's goal was to figure out the fork guards and get the front brake line routing sorted out. Job accomplished. :thumbsup_anim:

Here's the finished project:

pDCCnf.jpg

YihwEj.jpg

Super Enduro front fender with fork guards from a Super Moto. The fork guards fit perfectly in all three holes on the fork lowers. I bought a second wire "holder" with the rubber insert for the right side to keep the line out of the wheel. Since the lower hole the mount attaches to is not present on the right side caliper mount, I had to cut the guide shorter and modify it to fit. Everything now looks perfect and oem. I am very, very stoked.

Here are a few boring detail shots for anyone who gives a rats ass.

Right side caliper, you can see the shortened wire guide:

Left side with the oem wire guide:

And last, the rear shock installed from yesterday:

(Yes, I know there's a ton of slack in the chain, I have adjusted it and secured everything yet.)

This weekend, I installed Cycra hand guards, Touratech GPS mount for my Zumo 550, Adv Tank 2-1 with Akropovic exhaust (sounds amazing without the baffle/spark arrestor in), found out I have a K&N Filter (gone soon), and WIDE Pivot Pegz.

For the Cycras, the CRM mounts do not work with the KTM bars. I need the U-clamp for "Magura Bars." Now they're on there!

Part No. for anyone who needs it:

Done:

The WIDE Pivot Pegz:

The TT GPS mount attaches from below to the headlight plate like this:

Then you add the base of the mount:

Then the top of the mount and the locking GPS mount:

YBwseg.jpg

And from the cockpit (the blue painters tape on the bar clamp is to remind me I have not torqued those down yet):

Last, the ADV Tank 2-1 mid-pipe and Akro exhaust:

I also cleaned up all the wiring under the headlight which was a bit of a rat's nest.

So this is how she sits rights now:

I was going to install the Neduro tank too, but the bracket which connects to the passenger foot peg mount was jacked up. I have a new one on the way, but I've also seen a few threads where others have had the same fitment problems I'm having.

We'll see how it goes with the replacement bracket which should get here today or tomorrow. The bracket I received didn't fit right and was not counter-sunk for the screw that go into the captive nuts in the tank.

I have to say, their customer service was awesome. They responded to my email on a Sunday afternoon and said they send me a new bracket Monday. Nice.

The bike will be up and running by next weekend at the latest so I can get out and ride her like she's meant to be ridden. Can't wait!!

Cannot endorse the Rottweiler snapout and intake system enough. Yes, they're a client, but it is a VERY slick setup.

Looking good Yeti. Glad that akro worked out. The 2-1 single exhaust sounds awesome. :)

I love the Snapout. It makes changing the air filter a, wait for it . . . a SNAP!! :heh:

Looks awesome. Job well done for sure. I might be willing to take that K&N air filter off your hands if you are still getting rid of it?...
