MapSource help needed

Recommended Posts

Well I need more then MapSource help but we can start there...

When I loaded the program into my work desktop I also installed the Topo maps at the same time.

Now when I want to open MapSource at work it won't let me do anything unless I have my Topo disk which is at home most of the time.

Is there any way to bypass this "insert Topo disk" requirement or do I have to uninstall and re install MapSource without Topo maps?

If you're going to do a re install load the Base Camp. It's the newer version and just works better. Free from the Garmin site. It may solve you other problem as well.

Now that I think about it more.... I think I did have to load that Topo on each computer.

For what I am doing I don't need Topo so it works!

I was about to say to load Basecamp. Garmin dropped support for MapSource last year or year before.

The nerd way to do it...

Make a .iso of that Topo CD. (Google for directions on that)

Then take that .iso to your work computer on a thumb drive and put it somewhere.

Then use a program like "Daemon Tools" to mount that .iso like it's a CD Drive. (You might be able to mount that USB Thumb Drive as a CD Drive)

Then run MapSource, and point it at that mounted drive

Let's see; if I understand this correctly.... Pull pin, release the spoon, then lay on top of the granade. Problems solved!

I assume this is an older version of Topo? The way to do it is first uninstall Topo from Windows (Remove Programs). Then make a directory titled Topo in the C:\Garmin directory. Copy the entire cd to that directory. Once that's done run the setup file that's in the C:\Garmin\Topo directory. In other words run the installed from the directory rather than the CD.
