To start things off, here are a couple of remembrances Kkug - CID - Visualizerent and Bagstr Thanks to The Kug for Bringing in all together!! kkug 145 Posted June 20, 2013 Thanks Dave--I got to ride threw this area two times, once on the TAT and last year on our way up to start the CDT. I always was on a big bike so this time I decided to take the little one. Made the ride a bit essayer on the stress level. Our KTMs handled it with no problems,no flats,no issues. I would do it again in a heartbeat. I invited about 10 -12 guys but due to attrition it was down to Bagster, Covered in Dust, and a new friend from ADV that saw that we were riding in that area and had the time to join us. Juan aka also as Thomas. Juan knew the CA part well and that was good because I had a hard time making up my tracks in the CA part. The main theme of this ride was to ride the Historical Immigrant and Pony Express trails. I love that stuff. Nothing has not really changed since that time. Trails of Tragedy and Triumph. kkug 145 Posted June 20, 2013 We started our ride in Fallon NV. It was a fine choice. Traveling in Chris,s 747 at warp speed and confort. Fueled up our tanks the nite before. Passed Walker Lake on the way to Fallon. Saw some fireworks in Hawthorne NV. No time to buy some. We hit the trail to Gerlach where we were to meet Jaun at 1:30. Stopped in Lovelock NV. Nice Ranch. Saw a lot of these Asses ! A friend visiting. Approaching the Black rock Playa. We met Jaun at the only game in town.He pulled in one minute after we pulled in . kkug 145 Posted June 20, 2013 Before I get to far . Our general route ( But once we got riding we changed it up a bit ) And Bagsters Track off of my phone. We needed to to go 300 miles in between gas stops due to the stop in Denio NV was puting in new tanks. No problem for the well prepared desert travler. We headed out from Gerlach, stoped at the BLM station and was advised that they had some rain and that the lakebed might be wet. It was a bit windy also so we took a diferent route. A good decision because the ride was awesome. But we did go on the Playa a little bit. Took some pictures of Fly Geyser. A man made mistake ! Bitchen riding on seldom used roads. kkug 145 Posted June 20, 2013 As we were riding we came across the largest herd of wild horses I have ever seen. Vista,s forever The wild flowers were out in full force. Our campsite for the nite-Woodruff Camp at the Little High Rock Canyon. End of day one. Burr !
kkug 145 Posted June 20, 2013 Needless to say that the nite was -- Warmed up nicely ! Entering our main goal for this trip. Being from WI I like this one. Cool Chris adding tracks to the wagon train ruts carved into the rock. Something from a more modern era ! At the end of the canyon we come to Stevens Camp. kkug 145 Posted June 20, 2013 Next we rode to the Stolpa Rescue Site ( Google the Stolpa Rescue ) I knew of the general area but did not have the exact location. This cave may be it. Needless to say that these poor people were way out in the Boonie's. I knew I was ! kind of scary ! We rode to the Royal Peacock Opal Mine for Ice Cream. Talked to a funny lady driver for Fed Ex. she says she drives 500 miles a day ? Made our way past McGee Pond camping area. ( Possible staging area for our next ride ?? ) Made our way for supper--but no gas at at Denio Junction NV. After we tanked up on food and supplies for camp we road out to Bog Hot Springs. I been here before and it does not disappoint. 100 degree water !! Why we do these rides ! End of our second day of riding --good nite !
Bagstr 287 Posted June 20, 2013 Now we are finally getting to one or our goals, The Black Rock Desert Playa. Six miles of cracked linoleum on our visit. Another day,,,who knows Six miles long. Not a race track, but I will take it. Moving north through uncharted territory. Does the road run through? Passing the way of Real Adventurers, 160 years later. Some views are better masked by the sun The nights are warming, the views stretch the mind, the journey continues...

Bagstr 287 Posted June 20, 2013 "How'd Fallon treat ya?" Best Western - 3 Beds = $27 per person, plus truck parked for 5 days. Mixed opinion on the Mexican restaurant. My Posole was fine, just not the best. La Fiesta. The margarita hit the spot.
Sneeker 29 Posted June 20, 2013 Fabulous adventure! Great photos! THANKS! I need a Nevada FIX. From my experience NorCal and NorVada Mexican food is WEAK compared to the SoCal equivalent. Even the Mexican owned and operated places can't get it right up there.

On the other hand, there's no traffic...or communist hippies...
Covered in Dust 162 Posted June 20, 2013 The boys are doing a good job of telling the story of the ride, so I'll just insert a few random pictures. CiD My favorite bike of all time out in the middle of the Black Rock Playa
Covered in Dust 162 Posted June 20, 2013 In the best SDAR tradition I told Juan to stop pulling the bike off Kug until I got a picture. In fairness to Ken this was a tricky little section and he didn't really crash just tipped over.
Bagstr 287 Posted June 21, 2013 "Tricky Little Section" Hell it was a whole mountain of Sloopy, Rocky, Steep and sometime long sections. Of course being an Old Guy, I only bounced into the sage brush once.

Bagstr 287 Posted June 21, 2013 OK, so we are traveling down out of the Sheldon Antelope Refuge with Vague ideas of where camp will be tonight, 6:30 fish 200 miles in. Juan takes charge referencing paper maps and GPS, "There is a Road up this way" Having no better options, off we go, up a sometime schetchy rock filled two track with major consequences for mistakes. Off cambers later, track opens to meadows and aspen grove. Earlier, some guys"I don't need a beer tonight" HEll WITH THAT, I bought 6. Soon there is a necid guy doing Jimmy Hendricks improv To his boom box. Best Camp award. Photos anyone?
