  1. I had a blast riding with you guys!! Thanks to all that led the way and took the excellent photos!! I can't wait to go out again. Now I need to work on those controlled slides.
  2. Count me in! I'll be coming from Fallbrook if anyone is near and wants to meet. I'll probably just come up the 78 from Escondido.
  3. Well, now I can't go . A good friend flew in from Kentucky last week and some of us are getting together Saturday for a BBQ. It would be pretty rude not to go. I know it's good to hang out with friends you haven't seen in a while, but I really wanted to go riding, and it looks like I would have had a ride up too! Oh well, next time. Thanks to all that replied and offered a ride. I need to get a small trailer or something to tow behind my Jeep.
  4. I would like to go, but I don't have a way to tow my bike there, and I don't think my rear could take that much of a ride . Anybody have room for another bike? I don't have any tow straps or anything, it would all be on whoever has the room for me. No biggie if I can't go. I went up the road a few years ago in my Jeep, but it would be more fun on a bike.
  5. I grew up in Idyllwild and have been up the Bee Canyon road many times. What do you want to know about it? There's another fire road up 74 maybe 5 miles from the Bee Canyon road, it has a gate though and they close it when it becomes a fire hazard. I forget if Bee Canyon has any gates, I don't think so.

    500 mile maintenance really required?

I kinda figured that was the response I would get. I'll suck it up and take it to the dealer this time, but I definitely need to learn how to adjust the valves for the future. The manual says that a dealer or a "qualified mechanic" has to do it. I don't think I qualify . Thanks for the info.
  7. I have a new KLR 650. When I bought it, the dealer told me (and the manual says) that I need to have it serviced at a Kawasaki dealer at 500 miles. The manual says that the work to be done is: check idle, valve clearance, air filter cleaning, emission control check, battery check, adjust clutch, check chain tension, change oil and filter. Pretty basic stuff. I can do everything except the emissions check and valve check (only because I've never tried it before). Should I spend the money for all that or do it myself and hope that the valves are okay and check them at a later date? I don't wanna lose my warranty. How much do you think it is to take it to a dealer? I've never taken my cars or bikes to a dealer, I like to do things myself. I guess I better buy a service manual, huh?

    Hello All

Hi, my name is Lance and I'm glad I found this forum. I have owned sport bikes and dirt bikes but never a dual purpose. So I chose to purchase a Kawasaki KLR 650 recently. It's a little different than what I'm used to, but I'm getting more and more used to it with each ride. I hope to go riding with some of you guys soon. Unfortunately I'm still breaking in the engine. Oh well, all in good time.
