    Tire Recycling

I thank you for the tip about the Miramar Recycle Center. Better to have more options. Bicycle tubes and tires: • I took an old bicycle tire to REI Chula Vista yesterday and they had no problem accepting it. They said they also accept tubes. • According to this 2012 Performance Bicycle document, they accept tubes and tires for recycling. I haven't been there since 2012 so I can't personally verify.

    Tire Recycling

I haven't checked these boards in a while so I don't know if this topic has come up. If it has, mods, please merge. A lot of us change our own tires. What to do with the old ones? I took some small tires today to a San Diego County Recycling Event in Alpine. They were mostly getting old car tires but they had no problem accepting the small tires. I asked about bicycle tires and they said they'd take them too since they're all made of the same stuff. Search for tire recycling event to see if any are coming up. The guys accepting the tires were from Reliable Tire Co. San Diego. Normally they charge a fee to take waste tires. The guys at the event just drove the trucks and they didn't know how much the fee was, but they thought it was way less than the $4.00 tire shops charge to take old car tires. They thought it would be even less for a small tire like a lawn mower tire or a bicycle tire. Loan people/banker?

The last time I refinanced, after lots of shopping for rates and fees, I used Amerimac Mortgage up in Orange County. Amerimac is a mortgage broker or originator or whatever you want to call it. I'd use them again and I can't say that about all the mortgage brokers I've dealt with. I can get you their contact info if you want to talk to them. Depending on how much money you're talking, it might be better to re-finance your first mortgage and get cash out. Maybe a second mortgage would be better. You'd have to run the numbers. Personal advice from me. Take it for what it's worth. • Watch out for bogus fees. Escrow and appraisal fees should be the bulk of what you pay and it should come in under $1,000. • Talk to several brokers and be prepared to tell any of them to take a hike (don't give them any money) until you're sure of the fees they're charging. • Don't pay points unless you're 100% certain you'll have the loan more than 20 years or so.

Motorcyclists chase driver after fender bender

Yeah, the guy on the bike was riding recklessly and I'd say if he keeps that up he's eventually going to get seriously injured or killed. Without any video, it's always the guy who rear ends someone who's found liable. I thought the guy in the SUV intentionally nudged the bike. I'd expect he'd never admit that and say he didn't have time to slow down. I can see how someone else could watch the video and say he didn't possibly have time to slow down. For me, it's best to avoid accidents if at all possible. It's just not worth all the hassle.

Well, that's just the way things are. I had something like that happen to me. I was getting on the 805 at H Street when a guy in a camper who was stopped on the shoulder pulled into traffic in front of me. I managed to slow down enough not to hit him and the guy behind me also managed to slow down enough not to hit me. But some gal in a Camaro 2 cars behind me hit the guy behind me and pushed him into me. I eventually got a letter from the Camaro's insurance offering to pay for any damages to my truck. Luckily for the insurance company I had no damage to my truck and I didn't claim any injuries. I don't know what happened between the insurance company and the car directly behind me but it had a lot of damage.

Even if someone pulls in front of you and slows down just to be a jerk, that doesn't give you the right to bump into him. If you kill someone because you think he's being a jerk, you're going to have problems you don't want.

I saw another video on msn.com taken from the lane just to the left of the Range Rover. I don't have a link and I don't want to go search for it. It shows the initial incident where the rider cut in front of the Range Rover and slowed down. It looked to me like the guy in the Range Rover intentionally bumped into the bike. Lucky for both of them the guy on the bike didn't crash. I had something like this happen to me without any of the major problems that happened in New York. I was in the L.A. area on the 23 Freeway going to a wedding reception near Simi Valley when a bunch of kids on sport bikes got in front of me only to slow down to about 40 or 50 MPH for about a minute. I was going 70 maybe 75 when they passed me and they must have been going well over 100. I was directly behind one of the bikes when they slowed down and the thought of bumping into him never even crossed my mind. I just thought to myself "what a retarded way to get your jollies" and figured they'd speed off again and slow down another group of cars further up the freeway. I wasn't even pissed off. I just thought they were a bunch of kids acting stoopid. Can you imagine bumping into a motorcycle on the freeway? There's a good chance you make him crash and he dies. Intentionally bumping into a motorcycle on the freeway is as bad as shooting a gun in someone's general direction and not caring whether you hit him or not. Once the guy in the Range Rover stopped and the guys on the bikes threatened him, I don't blame him for stepping on the gas no matter what was in front of him.

    New to SDAR From Santee

Welcome to SDAR, Chris. I also ride a DRZ, but I've been doing more mountain biking in the last few months. I'll try posting a mountain bike ride in open discussion and see if generates any interest.
  9. Are you still doing this? I can't go on the DRZ because a valve's making a clicking sound on it and I haven't gotten around to adjusting it. If no one else goes on this big bike ride and you're still interested in a mini bike ride, I'd be up for it.

Where to EAT in San Diego

Here's another one in Chula Vista: Los Arcos - 89 East Bonita Road, Chula Vista, CA 91910 • On E Street/Bonita Road just west of the 805 in front of the Ramada Inn. • Mexican seafood restaurant (same ownership as the Los Arcos in Tijuana) • I've spent around $25/$30 per person when I've gone there. (It's way more expensive than the Tijuana location where I've spent around $8 per person.) If you want authentic Baja seafood without crossing the border, this is a good place to try out. It has the same menu as the Tijuana restaurant.

Where to EAT in San Diego

Thanks to everyone who has posted up some of your favorite places. It's been useful to me when I'm looking for a place to eat in parts of San Diego I'm not very familiar with.

Where to EAT in San Diego

Yeah, good to see ya. Actually, I thought maybe you'd like to try that place in your travels down south when I posted. But it looks like you've already found it. Maybe someone else will want to try it.

Where to EAT in San Diego

Otay Farms Markets 1716 Broadway Chula Vista, CA 91911 Green Building - Southwest corner - Broadway and Main This place is a grocery store with a take-out Mexican food counter. They also have a few tables in case you want to eat your food right there. The food is relatively cheap - you can get a lunch for around $5.00 It's not Mexican food adapted to American taste. It's the way you'd get it in Mexico. You order the same way you'd order at the service deli in a Vons. Take a number and someone helps you when your number is called. It might take 10 or 15 minutes to get served around lunch time so if you're in a hurry and it's around luch time, you might want to look for somewhere else to eat.

Where to EAT in San Diego

Aquí es Texcoco 1043 Broadway (East side of the street between Moss and Naples) Chula Vista, CA 91911 Website: http://www.aquiestexcoco.com/ I've spent about $15/person by the time I've walked out the door when I've been here. True to its Tijuana origins, this place is a little quirky, but I like it. They specialize in lamb dishes. I don't usually eat lamb, but I like it the way they prepare it here. If you want to try pulque, they have it here. They also have curados — pulque with flavoring. My only complaint is that they don't have coffee and they don't serve rice. According to their website, this place started out as a taco stand in Tijuana in 1990 and you wouldn't expect a taco stand to have coffee. But come on guys, spend a few dollars on a coffee maker. Some people like to have coffee with their desert.

    DR650 tank bash

You can probably get a plastic tank for a DR650. I don't think they've changed much over the years. Otherwise, I posted a thread in "equipment and technical forum" about fixing a metal tank a few months ago.
