To bleed or not to bleed, that is the question ?

if you are going up or down in altitude, blow up a balloon and "record it's size, let it ride along with you on the seat or wherever. When you arrive observe the balloon. this is what is going on inside your closed/sealed forks in regard to static air. Add heat it will expand the air more, cool vice versa. The best you can do is neutralize to the current operating area (pressure altitude). Through experience you can do some self-feel/taught compensation methods on top of that. On my first AER48 fork set up in the year of riding and racing before my spring install mod. I had a fairly good system for maintaining my preload ("spring Rate"/Air pressure rate) , They were hard to tune for enduros......morning 45-50F by afternoon 75-80, large pressure increases throughout the day = stiffer forks by later in the day when stiff is compounded by physical fatigue. I found my best pressure ("spring rate") and would set it a little low in the cold morn, knowing they would heat up a bit from operation I found a good start pressure that would have me close or on at operating temp. By afternoon, at rest before tests, I would piss off some pressure and recheck for my happy setting and restart just a little low to compensate for operating heat pressure rise. When I was calculating all this stuff, I found that my spring rate (air pressure=spring rate) could change as much the equivalent of 5 spring rates. So, imagine I usually use a .46 spring (enduro) I was way up in the low to mid .5s (supercross)by the heat of the afternoon. Substantial and very noticeable. I know that AER48s are the extreme end of the spectrum when you are dealing with air chamber volume in spring forks, but it was a valuable lesson as to how much, that closed system air pressure can affect your forks feel and operation. I also always maintained that liked the AER48s because I knew how to manage them effectively, most folks don't/didn't. We (S101) even discussed a regulator valve that could be set to the optimum (your optimum pressure) and when the heat rise came it would (pop off) bleed off the unwanted excess pressure to maintain your best setting. Note: On site before the ride, especially if moving from one atmosphere to another bleed the air out/in as a habit. Or at the least be aware of the possible changes in feel and stance of your front end.

While I do appreciate your offer. I must begin/continue to thin the herd in a good and efficient manner. Hope the 300 can really be done within 10 days. So she will be up for sale as I finish. Behind that I have my 94/97 Husaberg FC501 fairly close for final assembly Behind that I have my 2007 Aprilia Scarabeo 200 that needs attention prior to sale. Don't want to bring home more orphans.

After chasing tuning she is going back under the knife- new crank seals and possible fresh top end. Back step to 85% complete. My carb rebuild work made her better but there is still an issue. Seems to be eating wet side of crank, grearbox oil. She will be for sale after I'm done. And if someone wants to throw cash at me now as is......I'm thinking 2K obo

  5. 47 is the Jarvis..... wow... 4th in the world trials championship (higher than any of hard enduro guys) really carries alot of weight for a long time in hard enduro.

This weekend again. I re-pulled the jet block and installed a new jet block seal. The old one was crap...Now she comes down to idle!! Still runs a bit weird around the street. Needs a full Off Road day. MJ at 165 should be good at alt/heat season, want a good clean idle and smooth transition from bottom to top. This era of 300s are notorious for finicky jetting. I need to find my bag -o jets!!!! Anyway as is I should be able to get her good with mix screw and needle position adjustments. Mix is OEM/Euro standard 2% (50:1) with pump premium. BTW this was the first day in the dirt , on pipe fine, but I had to jockey the throttle to keep it going while it burbled down low. Looks proper on the trail, can't say I look bad either !!!

This will be first back in the carb. so more time still before she goes on the sales block

tested on Sunday 2 Apr at the SOS class. way too rich and possible clogged PJ. Installed smaller MJ (2 sizes), centered needle, recleaned entire carb including jet block assy. lowered float height a tiny bit, blew out PJ. Ready for round 2. She should be very close to spot on.

Field testing will commence on Sunday 2 April at the SOS/Sedlak Offroad School location in East County. A nice, controlled environment for the 3 stroke.

Finally finished, V Force 3 reed cage and all electrics hooked up. All good. Runs strong. Need a little Mix and idle screw adjustment. Note: everything is for sale....(with a few exceptions) all offers will be considered, many will be most likely discarded..... but heck you never know. Will bring to my Sedlak Offroad Class this weekend so I can run/test her in the dirt in a controlled environment.

    An (un)holy union

Make 1 good one from 2 bad ones. 2 wrongs can make a right. I love projects... this is another good one. Best of show!!
  16. So here is the 1st start of the event that was red flagged. observe the swamp section.... unusual for us out here ( I grew up on the east coast so kind of a have seen enviro) . I forgot to turn on the cam...... I will state it again. I love the Michelin Enduro Medium tires 90/90-21 front and 140/80-18 rear. They offer a bit of everything and traction on slimy rocks. Lots of R&D into these tires for all conditions, due to the nature of FIM requirement for world enduro. 2023 18MAR ZR Promo HS at El Chale Tecate 1 - YouTube
  17. Another short, closed course XC event just outside of Tecate BC Mexico Round 2 is the weekend just south of Tecate in the valley south after passing the toll road. Rancho El Chale
  18. Tough one short course I got in 2 laps......for a total of under 12 miles!!! Only 55+ entry so I won.... highlight was starting with the 45+ class and beating the 3rd place 45+ class guy. First start was red flagged due to trail confusion and people going 20 different directions. Restart was shortened to a 1 hour race. My eventful issues were going easy into the start and getting mud stuck from following too close to another guy , I got it on video , very dumb racing move..note to self never follow in the tire track of the guy in front of you!! Lost time pulling bike out-it was sucked into the mud bigtime!! ANother miscue later also caught on cam , took a line up the side of of muddy rocky up hill spot and the plants were like ice!!! also caught on camera!!! The rest was routine but quite tough and rough for alot of sections.

National City Motorcycle's Rob is servicing my front brake (bleeding, he is the king), Yes, I can and have done many times, but it's one job I hate doing! Will have the Moto Tassinari V Force 3 reed assembly this week and at that time of installation I will finish the wiring for the lights. Final home stretch. I did ride her up and down the street shifting is great and clutch feels good, I/m running my new favorite Red Line Synth Gear oil with their shock proof additive. This oil is amazing and smooths out transmission bigtime. My TE300i is like butter as will this machine.

  22. For additional info only, Among my friends, race and ride sponsors and including Mexico based clubs , have used the cash and handshake method for years now. Been effective but it is very old school, and ever changing
  23. PS lots of viddy loaded up on U Tube now. to review the adventure. I found myself on one slipping and sliding up the clay mud road , hard section. Funny the BLU split (to Black Diamond road section gave me more grief than any of the single track technical stuff. That stuff was a few inches of snow on top of 6-12 inches of pure snot grease on top of slick hard base..... weird for sure. Did you guys ride that ? It was a split to the left.
  24. I had one of those for years originally one of the folder ones. made it an non folder with 3/4 4x8 plywood base added wheel chocks , side fences, a fuel tank mount and found large dia wheels for it. All the wood was stained dark and trailer was rattle canned to match my van, I even added a better light kit with side lights . Using those cheapos as a base for customization can work really well to create a budget but solid trailer . I had 3 spaced wheel hoop chocks so 2 bikes fwd on sides and 1 facing rear. Also had HD eyelets bolted onto the main frame for tie straps. Served me for years. Thing (functional POS) even looked cool.
