Catalina Island Grand Prix Returns in 2010
robertaccio replied to Crawdaddy's topic in Off-Road Racing Events, Discussions, Rally Racing, Info, etc.
I must catagorically retract my pessimistic statements about this event, I was 100% wrong in my pre-race/event ideas about this Catalina GP event. It definitly rocked from A to Z, from all the reports, fotos and videos I have seen. Glad we did the Tecate Enduro thing (its more my type event), however if there are no conflicts next year I will definitly love to get out and watch the Cat GP show!!! It was a very cool scene and great looking vibe. RN -
well i know (at least I think) where it is, but i am not foto taker. have fun all. also fotos are weird, that trail is lot steeper in 3d.

Tecate Enduro Fun Ride

DJ, Glad you checked in! Good to hear all is good. Its fun to ride "with" the big dogs, they are fast beyond belief. Bobbit caught us in every section and never looked like he was even exerting any energy. I got worked near the end of the L3 (on last years HS course) in that last side hill into the rocky canyon section @75 mile zone, lost my rear brake on the downhills and was using way too front and alot of clutch/gear braking to compensate, just wore me out, luckily that remainder was out in the flats, brake came back and finished feeling good. Dai, so you know alot of that L3 area within close miles of finish was the exact route of last years HS "pro race" long course see my brackets above.Hope to see that trail again its a great section.RN -

good job Bill and crew, you guys rock!!, our masters (Tim) class guy also finished, as did all of our other 3 loop riders it was a good show, well done, challenging, but the Enduro format did work well to get some breaks before sections. -
New BLM Permit Requirements for Desert Dash
robertaccio replied to KTMrad's topic in Open Discussion
Good my post worked, topics of conversation and great ideas with differing viewpoints from various experiences. Thanks, good stuff printed, rules are rules and those BLM guys just went through investigations and microscopic views of their policies and regulations governing use of the lands that they patrol for us, because of the ugly/sad incident. Good call on LESAR (I too am checking in with an old rider friend that was with LESAR). I am sure they could easily have a few EMT certified DS chase riders out on the ride that would love to be on the ride. As well as the mentioned riders connections with willing 4x4 chase crews. KTMRad, plenty of time to get the right combo to keep the DD getting good traction for success. RN -
New BLM Permit Requirements for Desert Dash
robertaccio replied to KTMrad's topic in Open Discussion
"organized ride",,this isnt a race. sounds like there is a little overkill push happening there. A racing crash should have no bearing on a get together ride. How does a ride get classified?,, we all show up and ride like any dez weekend get together,, do we need to present official emt coverage? What constitutes the requirements for special operations and coverages. It sounds like typical over regulation. This is a DS club get together ride not a sanctioned race,, do the 4x4/jeep clubs need to have emt services for their dez get togethers now? Does the BLM need to be notified that we citizens are riding on "our" land legally with legally operated vehicles? All this is just simple Q&A stuff. additionally, the crash was an offroad truck into a crowd of close on the course spectators,,,,,,,this is like saying because of an I-5 car accident....... we have absolutly nothing in common with that crash other than being engine powered and earthbound and somewhere in the dez (not even within 100 miles of the incident). -

some Pro-Rider info for the thread from Fred Andrews. http://www.dirtrider.com/riding_tips/141_0503_tackle_sand_turns/index.html #72, arguably the best ever sand rider 10 time MXGP champ and Brazil ISDE (pure sand) OA winner. and our very own (WORCS champ) ISDE Team USA rider Kurt Caselli is very very good in the powder as well. this is great how to video!!

best suggestion comes from 3 former beach MX (supermarecross) riders. Dont weight the front too much , sit middle and back, ride sand like you are riding a jetski on water. (sounds simple enough) This is the Italian Nat beach MX series, imagine trying to get a permit to do this here!!! Also set up bike with no or minimal fork projection above the triple tree if doing an all sand ride, keep the front light and let it just ride on top of the sand, spiky front and paddle knob rear sand tires also help (if not using paddles, which suck for cornering) http://www.vitalmx.com/features/Riding-The-Pirelli-Scorpion-MX-Soft-Tires,2924

MZ is back from basically the dead and in German hands again with former GP racers Waldmann and Wimmer now owning MZ and even fielding a Moto2 team for 2010. I am more interested in the offroad/enduro segment that is being revived!! for now its just a competition 125 4T machine (street legal in EU like all Enduro comp machines, and it looks like they are moving in a positive direction. http://www.muz.de/en/enduro/gallery?func=detail&id=263

As more and more TE/TXC/TC 450/510 series machines are nearing motor life cycle. If you choose the keep it and rebuild it route. A mod that is well worth the @200 bucks in parts, is the installation of the SM counterbalancer shaft. The only additional effort to this mod is to weld the drive gear onto the crankshaft (the OEM press fit was not to my technical liking) . This is a mod we incorporated with my recent 2008 TXC450 rebuild and it has completely changed the feel of the bike. It's so much more smooth and less taxing to ride.
