  1. I was too lazy to ride in the heat. Glad the gates were open & you had fun!
  2. That's exactly what I've been thinking about! I might have to hit the Campo dinner for the fried fish on the return side. What time are you thinking of starting?
  3. What a great day riding along the border! The X(cross) Challenge looks much better with a fine patina of dirt! And my 1150 Adventure looks more symetrical now that it has scratches on the right side too. I hate going down hill. Here's a few poorly shot pics of the South Bay Beemer Bunch. Amigos atop Otay Mountain. Martin splitting out for home after enjoying his new toy! And then there were 3; waiting for the light in the tunnel. Required nourishment for Steve! What an awesome ride. Kev showed us some great roads & we practiced a few u-turns too. I really needed that, thanks for going guys. Can't wait to do it again.
  4. I was thinking a bottle of Merlot and a little picnic basket. I want to that bungied to the back of your 950. Now that would be the "pic of the day". Bring your sun bonnet too.
  5. That's romantic.... Can I join you ? Bring Beer
  6. Hi Martin, I'd love to go for an easy Sunday ride even if it's later in the afternoon. We could go play out on Proctor Valley then over to the Fire Road by Thousand Trails up to Otay Mountain. Maybe catch the sunset from on top the mountain!
  7. As mentioned at the Desert Dash, San Diego BMW is sponsoring a Charity Fund Raiser Ride to benefit the Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation. At a minimum please go to the PKD Foundation website and read about this relatively unknown horrible disease. Ride is Saturday April 14th.....see link below to Flyer and more info. The ride will consist of both other than optimal pavement, Easy Dirt Roads & a pure Street Course as well. This will be a perfect opportunity for those of you with big GS type bikes to do some easy dirt & have a chance to win some awesome gear for a good cause. There will be a grand Prize for both rides! Lunch by Kelly & Kevin Airhead Chefs of fame & a buffet dinner! I love food! The ride can be started at both San Diego BMW and North County BMW, however we recommend the GS/Adventure Ride gents to start at San Diego BMW. Expect a full days ride roughly 200 miles. Following the ride's end at the Encinitas Elks Lodge during the Pre-Kidney Kasino Social the prizes for the best Poker hand will be awarded. There will also be a silent auction with both moto & non-moto items! Have you wife or significant over meet you there! The Registration information is below and you can also register at San Diego BMW. Be sure to see Huskyforme, Martin's, new X(Cross) Challenge!! http://pkdride.sdbmwmc.com/ http://www.sdbmwmc.com/catalog/ Sponsor of Blackjack tables is avaiable, all Donations, including part of your entry fee, receive a Tax Deductible receipt! Thanks looking,
  8. Martin!!! You made my day fun! I'm very happy for you & will enjoy your purchase vicariously at least until one follows me home too! And your photographer is pretty darn good too! Hopefully I can go with on some break-in miles to Otay Mountain etc. We'll need some photos for the Open House on the 31st. I'd love to see all you SDAR wildmen come on by. Have a of cup of joe, a snack & rub on some bikes! We can also get you signed up for the Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) Charity Fund Raiser GS/Adventure ride on 14 April. This is a Quasi Hi Jack. Hands up!
  9. Ride the bike and take the commuter lane. Actually I 15 by 6:30 is not too bad usually. We can keep some cold ones for you. Come later. Doc No prob. I expect there will be more opportunities. Have fun. Doc Don't hurry. We will be hangin' out and talking. Movie times are very flexible. Glad you can make it. Did you say Murray was coming too? Doc Murray is clearing it with COMHOMEPAC; so he's a solid maybe as am I now. I'll reconfirm as the date draws closer.

Moving in from the Pacific Northwet

Orgonians tend to really dislike Californias who take their equity up there & jack the real estate prices out of the reach of the average local. It screws their economy & quality of life up. That and when folks bring the bad SoCal tude up. Over the years I've spent lots of time in Oregon riding and frankly the friends I've made are life long. I love the people, the relaxed attitude and appreciation of the outdoors. Having my bike break down outside of Portland last July was one of my nicest break-down experiences ever because of the quality of the people. I wasn't on the roadside for 2 minutes before some guys pulled up & asked if I were an Adventure Rider because I was loaded with camping gear etc on my GS Adventure. That & they just saw the biggest GS wheelie of their young lives. My hydraulic clutch failed, so if I stalled I had to start in neutral paddlle forward rev & drop it in first = Big Honking Wheelies!!!!!!! Especially with camp gear on the back! I can't wait for the weather to get better up there so I can go see my friends. Just like they enjoy coming here & riding in the winter!! It's all good.
  11. Yo Doc, See you there as soon as I get off work & finish the traffic fest. Probably 7ish.

Moving in from the Pacific Northwet

Welcome Freddy! Be sure to drop by SD BMW with your R1150GS. PM with regard to gear, as I always seem to have too much in garage. Everbody has a fetish don't they?? I also have a DRZZ400S & love it. I just cart-wheeled it pretty good on the Des Dash & it looked & ran the same afterwards. Better than I can say for myself, but I'm almost healed up. Enought to ride anyway.
  13. Done! Feel free to plagiarize and embelish as you see fit. The Honorable Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, I understand one of the OHMVR commissioners recently resigned. Please appoint Ed Waldheim to the position. He is vastly experienced genuinely cares that we achieve an equitable balance for all parties involved. It is my opinion that recreation opportunities for all members of the general public be managed in a fair and equitable manner. It has become an all too frequent condition to have the Off Highway Vehicle Recreation opportunities closed or outlawed by special interest groups. Equal and fair management for all must be restored. Please appoint Ed Waldhiem as OHMVR Commissioner so the Off Road Community has a voice. The hard working people of this great state deserve recreational opportunities for their psychological health and wholesome family recreation. Thank you for your consideration on this very important issue. Sincerely,

    New BMW G 650X

I just swung a leg over the New 650X today at SD BMW & had to keep my distance so it wouldn't follow me home. I hope to ride one in the very near fuure & plan to know MUCH more about it soon. I'm hoping the EFI will give great mileage to help that small tank. Feel free to drop by the shop & chat with me there in the near future on Fridays & Saturdays.
  15. I agree 100%! Pyro's attitude is awesome, even after I got us thoroughly lost for the second or third time. Although it's certainly easier to get a group concensus when everyone has a roll-chart. Now that Pyro has one we can all follow him & feel embarassed for being spanked by a KLR. I'm not even sure if Pyro humored us with a get-off anywhere? If so I never saw it. I'd also like to say how reassuring it was to have you guys along when I ate it in that wash, I thought that was going to end with bones sticking out. I'm certain it made da bum feel better. It was all for you baby! And Martin, don't feel bad about being sore. I could barely load my bike Sunday AM. My ribs only hurt when I laugh & sneeze. Or try & pick something up. It was great riding with you guys. Sure wish Joaquin could have stayed for the whole ride. And thanks to all of you for not blowing a gasket when I screwed up with our navigation. I promise to do a better job next time & hope to have a GPS by then too. I think I need to change my handle to WrongWayBos. Oh well, we were contenders for the High Mileage Award! At least until I spoke to Mad Mike who rode to Ramona part way through the ride & returned to camp 25 minutes after us! Finishing the ride after the ribbons had been pulled & in the dark!
