Moving in from the Pacific Northwet

Welcome Fred, hope to ride with you soon.......we have a lot of good people here, as well as many rides going on most of the time.
  2. Welcome Sonny. Gotta get you in the dirt on your 1200GS

    Got the parts installed!

I thought is was just me. That's one reason I mentioned the quotes and replies, because the comments were hard to follow on this thread....not that it's a big deal
  4. Inserting a link........copy the link you want to insert, from your address bar, when you're ready to insert it in your post, click on the icon above that looks like the world (next to the envelope), a window will pop up and you paste the link address into that window, then another window will ask what you want it to say in your post......for instance, if your pasting a link to your own website, after you paste the link in the window, then it asks what you want to call it (enter title of webpage)....you type in "my website", and that is what will appear in your post. Another way to insert link........when you are typing your post, you may highlight the words where you want to insert a link....for instance, if you're inserting a link to the AMA..... "Hi, here is the website for the AMA".....you would highlight "AMA", then you click on the "world" symbol up above, then paste or type the link in the window. With this process, another window will not pop up asking what you want it to say, since you already highlighted the words that describe the link. Hope this makes sense.

  6. Well, my foot is feeling a lot better, probably not completely healed yet, but I think an easy ride will be in order soon. I'll keep you posted. Soon, it will be time to get out to the desert to explore and GPS new routes for next year !!

    How to delete a post?

Only moderators can delete posts. If you want your own post deleted, please PM one of the moderators for that forum specifying which post to delete and reason for deletion. Try to use one of the other moderators besides me, I spend a lot of time validating & approving new members, deleting spammers, answering questions, etc. It's really quite simple.....this should explain it, read the response from Brett, who explains more. If anyone wants to take the time to explain how to do some of the basic operations of posting, please feel free to ad posts here.

Ummm, maybe KTM is a smaller company then the japanese manufacturers ? I think they may be a little smaller
  9. Just to clarify....Up from Pine Valley ?? Kiernan goes down from the main dirt road (believe it's Bear Valley) towards Corral from Pine Valley, or up from Corral towards Pine Valley. Bikeslut, didn't know you had a V-Strom ? Kiernan was easy on your strom, even with all those rocks ? You must have a decent skidplate on it, eh ? I have ridden most of the interior trails at Corral, they all have a rating. The most difficult ones ARE definitely difficult, even on a regular dualsport bike. I think Bronco Peak is the toughest. Definitely not a trail for big bikes. But as you said, many of the other trails are OK for an experienced rider on a big bike.
  10. I would say the Kiernan Cycle Trail as it heads down towards Corral from the main dirt road is not moderately easy.....I would rate that as at least Challenging......it's easy for a seasoned rider, but not for a novice. Also, it definitely becomes a little challenging on a BIG bike.
  11. The last few posts show some people actually care.....good to see some enthusiasm. Wish more people participated. Suggestion....hopefully more of you support and get involved....so if you do, it might help to respond to some of these posts.....maybe some peer pressure will help motivate some others !!
  12. Hmmmm....have they had this before ? If so, have you done it ? KTM 640 LC4 too big for this ride ?? How about my 950
  13. Wish I could go, but fighting northbound traffic on a Friday afternoon is no fun.
  14. I got a call from a District 37 AMA club officer, Kieth. He said a rider who rode our Desert Dash gave us high compliments, said it was the people involved and the type of ride that makes riders want to keep coming back. I want to thank all of you who helped out for making this a successful event, and for representing SDAR.
  15. Race or Trail Ride ??
  16. Buy your tickets for the raffle....even if you don't want the sand rail, you can always sell it. And you'll be supporting our sport by buying raffle tickets !! Info HERE
  17. NOTE: Hijack ON I agree R-O. You started this post yesterday and it's already had 100 views....I started a post with photos about gnarly trails, and it got 68 views in 4 hours. Many of the posts in the Environmental / Land Use Forum have been there for weeks and they are lucky to have 100 views. Really, it's pretty sad that many people, including some of you on SDAR, don't want to be bothered with the issues. What will you all do when you lose more of your trails and riding areas ? Times have changed....it used to be only about riding and having fun....but nowadays, get involved or lose the trails !! Hijack OFF I sure hope I can ride by the weekend of this ride, March 18th.
  18. Yep....sometimes we get our ass kicked, but always afterwards we say, "wow, that was awesome" !! To me, it's overcoming the challenge. I always look back at these tough rides with nothing but great memories.
  19. Mesc, I will be in touch with BLM and Forest Service to find out about organizing a Dualsport Ride in that same area next year. So, if it's a go, I will be going up this summer to prerun and layout trails. I'll be posting invites on the forums.
  20. Truck....truck ?? I got a 950, don't need no stinkin' truck
  21. More from this ride........... A washed out canyon, on the way into the White Mountains near Bishop, CA., from July 2006. This was perhaps the most difficult riding I've done so far on the big bikes.... Mad Mike on his R1200GS, with Dale as the spotter.... Dale with his hiking stick, assisting Mike.... Yours Truly on the 950
  22. A washed out canyon, on the way into the White Mountains near Bishop, CA., from July 2006. This was perhaps the most difficult riding I've done so far on the 950..... Dale helping me out.......
  23. High Sierra, July 2006....I had a little trouble on this section, used the camera timer for a photo.... It was a fairly loose, steep downhill....it took me a few minutes to pick the bike up
  24. Just a few pics from some exploring I did a few months ago. This is near an old mine east of Santa Ysabel The area is worthy of some more exploration....I was alone and there were some steep, loose hills....I want to go back with a couple of other people to explore. Bitchin' sunset at Santa Ysabel Refreshment before heading home. It says it right on the bottle....The One and Only
  25. Roxus, now those GS riders know what desert riding is all about....since you took them through miles of sand Were there many local riders on that Rawhyde Event ? If any of them are still interested in riding off-road locally, tell them to check this site. Mad Mike and UncleCameron both ride GS1200's, and Mike also rides an old R-100GS. On the Desert Dash, you missed a friend of mine, Kevin, who rode an HP-2 all day Saturday. You guys were the only HP-2's on the DD.
