Getting out from under the man

Long work hours......what's that ?? Hey Tree, congrats.....I've been self-employed now for 3 years, and as long as it is working out, I can't see myself working for anyone else.

    January 7th - 10th

Jon, keep me posted....depending on the day, I may be able to go if I'm not working.
  3. Is the KLR too big for the DD ? Depends on the rider.....some ride a BMW 1200 GS, KTM 950, BMW Dakar 650 on the ride, so I'd say a KLR can work. The routes will NOT be exactly the same as last year, and on Saturday, I'm hoping to have some difficult options around the Superstition area, not for big bikes....but the bypass route will be OK for bigger bikes......if you like sand

    Happy Birthday Gunz

Yeah, that was fun Aaron...oh, and all the better since it was a b-day celebration ride, which I didn't even know it was....so, Happy Birthday !! After we parted ways on Wildcat, I headed to Santa Ysabel to Black Canyon back to Ramona, then home. Nice little night ride.
  5. Anyone want to swing down to the desert early Wednesday morning to ride all day ? Thinking Borrego area. My 640 is ready to ride !!

    SDAR Club Stickers.....PLEASE READ

I will be riding, just a quickie up Wildcat Canyon to my special, secret dirt trail....maybe to Ramona and Black Canyon for a sunset ride. AFTER I see the sticker guy in Santee.

    SDAR Club Stickers.....PLEASE READ

I will have some Shut Up & Ride stickers made also. As far as some other requests.....sorry, can't make them all, and can't keep everyone happy all of the time I like the idea of some that say Seek Dirt And Ride....think we'll hand them out to all the riders on the Desert Dash........a catchy phrase that also stands for the club name !! Sandiegoland, good job on the phrase Seek Dirt and Ride
  8. Our Club Stickers will be in the Dakar Rally on John's racebike....Aprilia 450 twin. So, if any of you follow John's race progress, keep an eye out for him, his bike and our stickers.

One step at a time.......and I think die-cuts cost a lot more, so that may be on down the road.
  10. From John.......... To all, As most of you know I’m going on an off-road racing adventure across Africa. It’s the longest, most grueling motorsports event in the world. I have raced the Baja 1000 and 500 and raced in one other international rally in the United Arab Emirates in 2004, but these pail in comparison to the Dakar Rally. I’ve attached a link to the Dakar Rally website, which is very interesting and full of information. Also, during the race you can log onto the website, type in my race number, which is 152, and actually track my progress in real time. On every vehicle, (motorcycle, car or truck) there is a GPS/LoJack type of unit that tracks my every move. Also, the race is televised daily on the Versus channel (formerly Outdoor Life Network). The actual race is from the 5th of January till the 20th, and don’t forget about the time difference of 8 hours. Wish me luck, and I need to thank all the sponsors and supporters that helped me make this “Lifelong” dream happen. Almost all of the support I received was from great friends and family, so THANK YOU SO MUCH. For any of you still thinking of contributing, the easiest way would be to log onto my race website www.race2dakar.com and click donations or just buy a shirt or two….. Every bit really helps!!! Dakar Rally Website "A challenge for those who go.” “A dream for those who stay."
  11. Plans for shirts and stuff have not worked out yet, but John's wife is supposed to be sending me some shirts to sell. John starts the race in a couple of days.

    SDAR Club Stickers.....PLEASE READ

I had a few stickers made up overnight to get them to my friend John so he could get them on his bike, since he left for the Dakar Rally on December 29th. So, here's what the first round of stickers look like, and they will be on John's racebike in the Paris to Dakar Rally. I will have more made up in a few days, to distribute to you all.
  13. Wow....sounds like quite a few people are going to show up around Superstition at some time during the weekend. Crawdad....looks like your plans changed from Ocotillo Wells to Superstition ? I will be looking for Crawdad at Superstition and staying out there...I will have my little 16 foot Prowler trailer and our Mascot Cody will be with me. I'll be in a white '98 F150 and the trailer. Also, another SDAR member Shane will be out there with his group of friends, at another location. Sounds like a big party to me !! PS - I'm writing this at 2:00am Friday night after the Van Halen concert in Vegas......needless to say, it was fan-friggin'-tas-freakin'-tic ....whatever that means Hope to see a bunch of you out there during the weekend.....I'll be heading out probably Sunday morning.
  14. Crawdaddy, I'll give you a call, since it sounds like you'll be easy to hook up with for the weekend. Talk to you later.
  15. At this point, I'm not committing to Monday at the Blue Inn (maybe yes, maybe no...don't want anyone waiting for me). I'm going to be out there somewhere for the weekend, and don't know if I'll be making it to the Blue Inn on Monday. So, PM me for my cell phone number if you're going to be in the area . I'm only looking for about 2 - 4 maximum, experienced riders to explore the tough trails around Superstition. And if need be, I'll be exploring them myself, which is always fun too !!
  16. R.O., My plan is to come out & visit you, if not camp, to ride in the area to explore the GPS tracks you gave me from D38 racing, to see if we can use some of those trails on the Desert Dash as difficult options. I will not be coming out until probably Sunday, and not sure if I'll be camping at Agua Caliente with the Airhead BMW Moto club or not. Will let you know what my plans are. The Unknown Prez

cell phone numbers in "members only"?

Well, looks like it's time to start a thread there for Cell Phone Numbers. I'll go ahead and start a separate forum in the Members Only for Contact Info. Sounds like a good idea.

    CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

Don't get mad at Admin, they're just doing their job and trying to keep the megabytes of web usage lower on the server, so we can continue to have this website hosted for free
  19. Santee Cycle Supply........talk to Kenny, it's a one man shop. He has good prices, and can get tires in a day or 2. Tell him you're with SDAR, he is a personal friend of mine. Santee Cycle Supply 619-449-0344, open Tuesday thru Saturday, and he works late quite often.

    Husky's shipped

I just got word that Husky wants to sponsor the Prez with a new 510 LOL, I wish. I think my next light bike will be a Husky also. Ken, I think everyone else wants to try yours when you get it, and you won't have any time to ride it yourself
  21. If you stay in any hotel / motels, you need to watch this news video......it's for your own safety and health....pass it on. It's pretty scary. Video Link

    Down Hill techniques

Both Dropoffs, Diablo and Heart Attack Hill, are supposed to be one way....down only. I wanted to include going UP the Diablo Dropoff on the Desert Dash ride, but they would not allow it. The reason is, they don't want jeeps & 4x4's tearing up the terrain trying to get up the hills.
  23. When you post on the forum, you go to the little image above that shows a "green tree" and when you move your mouse onto it, it says "insert image". Then a window will appear where you paste the URL of your image....preview your post to see if the image is there, then go ahead and post it. You must paste the URL of the image, from your other photo hosting site. Some do not allow you to link to your photo, or there may be a trick to it, depending on the site. Webshots is one of the best photo hosting sites, and it's only about $30 a year for a premium membership.
