  1. You know what I have observed, many people want to complain about the land agencies, their comments about us, their reaction to us, etc, etc. But I see more people reading Kawee's Corner posts, Photo Posts, Ride Write-Ups, etc, and hardly anyone reads the important posts in this forum. If you feel so strongly as to make comments about the land agencies and their rules, how about doing something about it and showing up at Lobby Day in Sacramento. If some people want to go from SDAR, we can talk to D37AMA, D38AMA, SDORC and CORVA about having them absorb some of the costs. If you support these groups with donations, your dollars help send people to events like Lobby Day to represent us !! There is Power in Numbers. Imagine what publicity we would get if 5,000 off-roaders showed up in Sacramento !!
  2. Open to suggestions for a meeting place Thursday night for Lobby Day planning..... Chris posted a couple of locations, I'm Open....... I'll start a new thread about meeting Thusday Night.

The original San Diego Adventure Riders

    Cool Thread !!
  4. Chris, I spoke with the D38 Prez about their meeting Thursday night......sounds like all they will talk about is racing and race protests, so really not a reason to go to their meeting. In the future, if they have topics besides racing, it might be worthwhile....but I don't really want to sit there hearing heated arguments about race protests. We should have meetings and they should attend OUR meetings :curtsey:
  5. Some posts above were edited and/or deleted due to content.
  6. OK.....we should be able to have all or most costs (including some gas) for Lobby Day reimbursed by SDORC and D37 AMA, more details to come on that. I think if SDORC pays for your Lobby Day cost, then you should be a MEMBER of SDORC. Also, Ed Stovin (Prez of SDORC) gave me a name & number for D36 AMA Prez , who knows the entire area up there for riding, so we will have some good choices. I think we should have a little meeting over dinner somewhere one night soon, to discuss details of Lobby Day and riding that weekend. I'd like to get a formal head count now, for those who want to go and are committed to LOBBY DAY APRIL 7th.
  7. People, remember we have a Members Only Forum for certain types of Discussion. Also, PLEASE READ THE FORUM RULES.......there shall be no mention of riding in questionable areas on this PUBLIC FORUM. Another hint about Google Earth.....it does not show you locked gates, posted signs, and whether it is legal to ride on trails......it is the responsibility of the rider to know whether an area is legal to ride in !!
  8. I'll be finding out more info from SDORC tonight about Lobby Day. Then I'll research where to ride up around Sacramento.
  9. See what this retailer is doing to fight loud pipes.........scroll down on the website page in this link
  10. I only heard of one injury, and don't know how bad. If you are the person, or know who it was, I need to know what happened so I can complete the report to the AMA. thanks,
  11. Craig, I will be helping you however I can, and hopefully doing the ride also !! Thanks for working on the organization of this event. Keep me posted.
  12. At Lobby Day, you don't have to speak. Last year was first time for me, we split up into small groups of about 6 to 8 people, each group visiting different representatives, and the most knowledgeable person in the group did most of the talking. We typically spent between 10 to 20 minutes with each office we got into. A suit is not necessary, but is a plus. We could all show up in our riding gear I'll see if we have a few people interested, if putting together a ride that weekend and then going to Lobby Day might be possible.....great idea Dug !!
  13. With all the talk about frustrations with the land agencies, especially since we posted the comments about the Desert Dash, more of you should be wanting to do something to stand up for what your opinions / frustrations are. The opportunity to show support for your sport is at this Lobby Day in Sacramento. If we had 500 or more people at the halls of the State Capitol, it would probably make the news, our representatives would be more aware of us, and we would have more of an impact. Sad thing is, we had maybe 100 people last year, and that was the biggest year yet. So, if you don't get involved, don't Whine......like this year's shirt says, "No Whiners" !!

    Kawee's Corner

Yep......he was a great rider, but screwed up by partying too much and getting caught.
  15. A discussion was started in the Members Only Forums.....a good place for rants about this subject
  16. As always, I check in or get a call from the Supervising Ranger of Anza Borrego, after the Desert Dash ride is done. We've been lucky with never any major issues, but there's always some comments from the rangers in the park. As I mentioned at the raffle Saturday night, I saw tracks in the washes where people were cutting corners. OK, you think...so what, it's just a sandwash....well, you can see the huge difference in the washes at Ocotillo Wells OHV area and the washes in AB Park.....the ones in the park don't have tracks and berms in every corner because everyone stays in the jeep tracks, as we were supposed to and I explained in the Ride Info Flyer in everyone's packet and also at the raffle Saturday night. I got complaints from the Rangers about cutting corners in the sandwashes....if a rider has to cut the corners and leave the jeep tracks, then they are going TOO FAST for conditions !! Another complaint was about some people riding on the shoulders of the paved roads, which is illegal, a safety hazard, and just makes us look bad. I wish some people would think before they do things that may not affect them right away, but their actions will affect others and our dualsport image in the long run in a negative way. Another thing I plan on doing is having sound checks at our rides.....too many bikes have really loud pipes. The loud bikes draw too much attention to us, and also make us look bad, especially in a park like Anza Borrego, where there are many others enjoying the park. I don't get the thing with the loud pipes....is the slight gain in power, and slight loss in weight really worth ruining it for everyone else and jeopardizing our ever shrinking riding areas and trails ?!! Other people recreating in the outdoors hate loud bikes !! And when you're riding in a canyon the loud pipes really do get annoying. We are so lucky to have a couple hundred miles of trails to ride in Anza Borrego, so please think how your actions may affect motorcycles in the future....it sure would suck to be denied permits for events in the park, or lose the privilege of riding motorcycles in the park. This really pertains to anywhere you ride. OK, I'm stepping down now.......
  17. I want to thank all the volunteers who helped and offered to help for the Desert Dash.....couldn't have made the ride a huge success without you all !! Carguy - John Ride Orange - Rob Rob's wife Debbie, son Tommy, and little Courtney too, for being Cody's buddy and watching after him while I was out riding !! Uncle Cameron and his wife Jessica John P. Maddog Mike Dual BMW - Ron Kevin Crawdaddy - Chris Schwinn - Steve Sandiegoland - Craig Joliet - Ken Palm Ave Rider - Guy, his buddy Chris, and his brother Jack John79 Tree - Duane GPS Kevin Chief Gunner and Mescalero (2 Aaron's) volunteered, but couldn't make it......thanks to you both for the offer !! Hope I didn't forget anybody !! Special thanks to Sandiegoland, Crawdaddy and GPS Kevin for the help with the GPS stuff and making that all come together for the first time doing GPS downloads. Another thanks to Gil from D37 AMA Dualsport, for helping with the GPS downloads. And can't forget about Kelly and Kevin, the caterers who did another great job with the food.

    Kawee's Corner

For February 27th.... At the World Superbike Races , Laguna Seca.....who can name the rider standing with the bike ?
  21. I didn't start riding until 1986, and never had a dirtbike / dualsport until 1995, so answer to your question is no My father wouldn't let me have a moto while living under his roof. Got the Seca 750 while living in Houston, then rode it from Houston to NY later that year when I moved back east.

    Another Birthday Boy

Rob, Happy B-day !! This one's for you..... and this one too. The VP was thinkin' of you too........
  23. More bike photos......I'm playing with my new scanner, and having a good time looking at old pics. My first bike on my first big 3 week road trip, from NY to Wyoming in 1986 with my friend Tim on his Harley.....yes, that's me with the red '81 Seca 750....I put over 40,000 miles on the Seca in 4 years. Just call me Easy Rider.... and yes, we didn't wear our helmets for most of the trip, it was our first really big trip and we took advantage of the freedom..... My 2nd bike, '89 FJ1200 which I bought new and put 107,000 miles on her before her retirement. Here I'm on my 11,000 mile road trip from NY to San Diego in 6 weeks, the bikes posing at Bryce Canyon. My friend Larry was on his Ninja 1000. And the FJ again, fully loaded with camping gear on a 18 day trip from SD to Washington State. In this pic, I was dualsporting her to the most Northwestern point in the US.....Cape Flattery.
  24. Some pix from my racing days...... First on a FZR400 Yamaha in the 500cc class Here I'm passing on the outside....I used to love doing that in Turn 3 at Willow Springs, this might be Turn 2 at Willow After selling the FZR400 and taking a year off racing, a friend asked if I wanted to buy his GS500 Suzuki racebike....when he said $1100, I couldn't resist. That bike was great fun, and it still sits in my garage, not having been used in about 6 years.....man, I miss racing !! One of these days.......... The GS500 was so much fun, because I had to hold the throttle wide open with minimal braking around the track, to carry the corner speed and try to keep up with and catch the faster bikes, like the FZR400's and EX500's. Great fun, there's nothing like Roadracing !!
