    Rider missing in OTAY area

Katie Camou 2 hrs · Dear friends, I can’t even believe I am putting this into words, but my dad, Bobby Camou, went for a solo ride on his dirt bike around 10am yesterday 4/25 and did not return home. We are fairly certain he went riding in the Otay Mountains near home. He had planned on being home around 4:30pm, and we last heard from him at 12:22pm when he sent us a snap shot of himself taking a break, so not hearing from him is making us very scared. This feels like a living nightmare. If you are able to (safely) help in our search for him, please DM or text me. We need hikers or any friends that have off road vehicles/quads/ATVs/dirt bikes...etc. Please pray for us, for my dad. And if you think it’s ok to go out alone on hikes or “adventures”, THINK AGAIN and STAY HOME, STAY PUT!

  3. Nice Udo. When I went last week the lookout was closed. I really wanted to go up there. I am surprised the group did not go up. I will have to go back with the lookout now being open. Also I would like to run some of the trails/ roads in the park before people take it over again. Thanks for posting
  4. I am going to ride wed the 17th on the small bike. I would like to start early 8/9 am. Seeing who would be interested in riding. There has been interest in doing the Black Mtn so I will start there. I am open to riding area. I am open to doing some exploring. Just looking to ride. Anyone interested?
  5. I am sorry, but I am out. Not only am I sore, but my wife and daughter have demanded I make the remodel of my daughters room my priority. I will be back at it next week.
  6. Went up to a ride on Mt San Jacinto. We were to start down at Cranston fire station and ride up to Idyllwild for lunch and then return. 6 riders showed. Jeremy ktm 690 Blair Husq 310 Tyson 450l Andy ktm 500 Mark Harley 800 Myself ktm 500 As we started up the mountain I was really surprised at all the shooting that was taking place right of the trail. Many people shooting into these little canyons. Beginning trail in Bee Canyon was an easy ride up. Had to get through all the people and jeeps. We then planned to go up a Black Diamond jeep trail. As we stopped and looked up I was surprised at the climb of the trail. From our intel it was a climb at the beginning. Pictures never show the real steepness of the trail. If you lose momentum your done. Jeremy went back down and cleared with clear trail and momentum. 20200614_095240.mp4 We took a break after getting through that section. We thought that was it. NO. It was a constant hill climb full of sections like or worse. Each section had a certain challenge. I had no traction. The bike was set up for HIgh Speed desert racing, not trail climbs. I would lose traction on the 2 ft wide line and then slide into a bike sized rut or hole. Then you are stuck half way up in sand trying to climb out a hole on the incline. I had not ridden a small bike in a few years, so my skills and fitness were not were they should of been. Flipped the bike over my head several times. Action shot on different trail later in the day. On the way back from a look out. We then headed up to Idyllwild for lunch. It was full of tourists. Lots of bikes of all kinds. Seemed they were having some type of fair. We got some stuff from the market and took over a closed business patio and had lunch. After lunch we headed back down a easy decent trail back to the vehicles. We did a little over 70 miles on the day. All in all it was a great ride. Great group of guys. Big shout out to Blair and Mark who helped me through the tough stuff. https://www.relive.cc/view/v36ArkkENGq?fbclid=IwAR2zBV9hA8Mlnxpt-G16-0svDqt1hNIADrI0u4mcPgyOfqIXgvxfgIY-O44
  7. I am pretty sore from yesterday ride. I will work on the bike and update tomorrow.
  8. So I am considering buying another bike. I think the ktm 500 is what I am looking at. Looking for used so there a many of them out there. They seem to have a good reliability reputation. Any suggestions as to what I should be looking for when considering the purchase? Thank you

    Looking for a used 500 exc f - questions

Dressed and ready to go. I took it out for a short off road break in ride. Getting ready for a longer ride tomorrow. Threw it around in the dirt. Such a difference from the 990. I have not ridden a small bike in so long. I do have a new seat coming, but this is the way it will be set up most of the time.
  10. I went to meet people at the start of Nate Harrison Grade. I needed to be there by 6:30. I had not put gas in the 990 since sunday morning ride. I figured the fuel light would come on and I would stop at Pala. No fuel light so I continued on to the meet up. 6:30 no one there so I waited a bit. No one showed so I figured they might be up the mountain already, so I headed up. Nice ride up to the top. As I was approaching the top my fuel light came on. I waited for a bit at the top and decided to go back down to a look out spot and see the sunset. I had a great spot for the sunset as well as the road coming up so I could see all my friends riding up. After sitting there a while and drinking my beer I called the wife. She then informed me that I went up on the wrong Tues. No one is coming. Bummer! Finished my beer (dark ale). I then preceded to head down the mountain. I added my fuel bottle to the tank and then coasted down the mountain. Very quiet and cool in the dusk of the evening coasting down the mountain with engine off. Saved my gas until I hit the bottom so I would make it back to Pala gas station. Caught this pic as I was heading out. There were some fires on Camp Pendleton so it made for a red sky. Sorry no one made it, but still had a nice sunset and cold beer. I thanked the powers that be and headed home.
  11. Maybe next week. My 500 is almost ready. I have a bunch of other business that needs to get done until then. I will definitely be looking to do some week day riding in the future.

I added the taller risers that came with the bike and redid the cockpit to fit me. Super comfortable now sitting and standing. Added the kickstand and rear rack. Took the bike out for a short motor break in run up and down the coast showing off some of its new habitat. It is really responsive. Had to be careful with throttle as the front end did not want to stay down. New seat on the way. Tubliss to replace the inserts. New skid plate will be installed when I change the oil from break in. Getting close!
  13. Yes comfy, but all seats are only comfy for so long.
  14. I am working on the 500. I will be doing my mods and breaking in the motor as well as the rest of my life/ family duties. That ride is a perfect ride for the 990. The high speed freeway road to get there and then fire road.
  15. I believe I had seen someone post on one of the FB pages a few days ago that Nate Harrison was blocked off at the top. I do not know if that is still the case.

I have not used the Gen 2. I have Gen 1 in my other bikes. People had complaints, but I did not really have any issues with them. If the Gen 2 are better than I should be set. Thank you

I have used tubliss since they first came out. For my size they have many benefits. I would constantly get pinch flats in the front tire. Tubliss eliminated that problem.

I face timed him with the bike. He started, ran and went over the bike with me while face timing. I had researched him pretty thorough. the owner did not ride it, but his bike came in 8th in the Sonora Rally. The owner freshened the bike with new piston and rings, swing arm bearings and repacked the muffler. He wanted to sell it in tip top shape. They seem to be very upstanding people. The bike was taken to a shop and transaction done through them.

Not in Kansas anymore. The 500 just got dropped off. Nice bike. The bike is so skinny. The bike is pretty tall. It should be easy to add the amenities I have planned. First round - Fastway kickstand - CID suggestion Tms design skidplate Globetrottin rack - Oracle suggestion Tall risers ( previous owner included taller set) Gps mounts so I can use my units on both bikes Tubliss Previous owner had a new piston and rings put in so I will have to go through the break in procedure.

  23. I tried to explore behind Wild animal park. Ran into private property gates. I then went up and rode Orosco Ridge. I have never ridden that trail. I will say it is a great trail to get some big bike off road training in. Ran in to several groups of DS riders. I can say that the new thermostat on the 990 did not let the bike get over 4 bars. The new gps mount worked out fantastic. Solid! No issues, no movement while I bashed the bike through the trails and was jumping the water bars. I need to adjust my rear suspension. I was bottoming out to much. I changed my seat over to a low seat and man did that help in several situations. Amazing the 1" difference can make in confidence when putting a foot down. Nice little water crossing at the beginning of Orosco Trail. A few pictures from the top.
