Cool guys, thanks for the welcome!

Hi guys, got a 2000 KLR and am in the Clairemont neighborhood. Relatively new to the area by way of the Black Hills of Wyoming -- kinda between Devils Tower and Sturgis. Done mostly fire road and trail-type riding with some occasional two track-type stuff. Probably put the most miles on doing road trips though: San Diego to Seattle, Black Hills to Chicago, etc. Friend in the area that rides a V-Strom recommended Corral Canyon and Anza Borrego -- which should I check out first?

I've been wanting someone to look over my shoulder while doing valves on my KLR. Is that the kind of thing people do here? I'm new to this area but am from the Black Hills near Sturgis. Did the KLR "doohickey" at a tech day up there.

Can't make this trip, but for future reference, how do KLRs fare in sand? Maybe too heavy? I've only done relatively-well-packed dirt and some light gravel before. But I doloathe gravel, although reading online a lot of people say you get used to it?
