    Zip ties on your forks

The point is that they can be access quickly. Something that a backpack can't offer.

  4. I stumbled on this video and thought it was cool. Baller Motorway in the Santa Monica Mountains. The dirt segment is 1.75 miles long. It's off of Latigo Canyon Road which is narrow and winding. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xJD-r166LgQ
  5. Yes, the map loads onto your GPS just like the 24k Topo. You can also use it on your computer with BaseCamp. The next additions will be Angeles NF and Los Padres NF. Death Valley and the Sequoia NF will follow.
  6. I'll be out on xmas eve. We seem to be crossing paths.

    Lock up your bike...

You actually need to lock it to something. It doesn't take much to pick one up and throw it in the back of a truck. I once lost a Honda 150 that was parked right outside my bedroom window.
  8. Both. The fire restrictions included target shooting. The link to the news release is on the target shooting page here: http://www.blm.gov/ca/st/en/fo/palmsprings/Target_Shooting_and_Hunting_Information.html The previous link was to a news release that detailed the ban. Someone from CalGun already called to verify that shooting is included. Today's rain is icing on the cake.

    Potrero - dirt road heaven?

There is a small amount of BLM land shortly after Harris Ranch Road turns into dirt. The houses, trailers and vans that people live in are right on the road so they put up the signs to discourage access. Almost everything to the east of HRR is BLM wilderness, north is forest land. Neither allow motor vehicles. You can access Hauser Creek Rd from Lake Morena Dr for a short segment but it ends in private property. The segment of Hauser Creek that is accessible from the BLM land is closed to vehicles. There isn't much on the north side of 94 that's still open. You might be able to ride South Boundary for a few miles but that's it as far as I know. Easement records aren't necessarily an indication that a road is accessible to the public. Most are for utility or private property access. Back Country Land Trust manages wildlife preserves. No motor vehicles.

MC storage recommendations near SD airport?

I would go with the Sports Arena area which is where I-5 and I-8 intersect. It's close by and will likely be cheaper than Point Loma or anything near downtown. Extra Space Storage

Two riders on KTMs poaching Black Mountain

The article is about taking money from the OHV grant fund and putting it into the General Fund. The grant program will still exist and environmental groups will continue to receive funds from red and green sticker funds. This is a description of the grant program There are links to the applications that detail why they want OHV money. This is a list of fund recipients Scroll down to the non-profit section and take a look at the names.

Two riders on KTMs poaching Black Mountain

Riding where you shouldn't often results in money coming out of the OHV fund. The funds collected from red and green sticker money is up for grabs through grants. People can apply for money using ridiculous reasons like "dust education". A lot of environmentalist groups that have nothing to do with off-roading receive funds because of poaching. When I was reading through the list of recipients there were several preserves getting $100,000+ for fencing and restoration because of off-road damage. It's just a complete waste of money. If you don't respect the sign then you're going to pay for a fence.
  15. The trail types can't be hidden via setting. It can be done by replacing the style file that determines how trails are displayed. If you'd like I can create files that won't show non-motorized trails. After installing the map on your computer, you'd save the files to the install directory. The city street map that comes with your gps is stored separately and will always be there. You can't overwrite it. If you've got multiple custom maps, they need to be loaded onto the gps at the same time. If you've already got a custom map installed (Baja as an example) then install CA Trail Map it will overwrite Baja. If you install Baja and CA Trail Map, you'll have 3 map to choose from.
  16. I am the map maker. I'm going to continue expanding the coverage area. Further north into Mojave is next. Let me know if you have any questions.

    Chiropractor recommendation.....please

I'm glad he was able to help. He's great with alignment. Diagnosing then giving you the funky position bear hug to snap it back into place. You should probably do mild stretching and exercises to rebuild the muscles and keep them relaxed. If your muscles tense up, they'll pull it back out of place. When I was injured, I would avoid moving to avoid the pain but that made the problem worse. The solution was stretching regularly, basically yoga.

    Chiropractor recommendation.....please

He isn't a chiropractor and he's not in east county but I swear by him for any back or muscle related injury. Kenneth Anderson, DO in Pacific Beach. I've been going to him for years after various motorcycle accidents. The x-ray room is a bank vault. His rates are reasonable. When you're dealing with billing and you don't have insurance, I recommend using the term "self pay". I think you're likely to get a better rate. http://www.yelp.com/biz/anderson-medical-center-san-diego

Recommended Best GPS Maps for Garmin 78

I created a GPS trail map that covers San Diego and Imperial Counties. All of topo maps on the market use government data and the most of the off-road data hasn't been updated in decades. I started from scratch and did a lot of "field work" to verify it. The Trail Finder page on the website shows the coverage area but it doesn't show the detail that you get when zoom into the GPS map. The trails are also color coded to indicate paved, dirt or dirt-ohv. Topo maps aren't of much use when you're riding. They're good for learning the terrain but the extra visual elements are a distraction when you're just glancing down. It's mostly hikers that like topo maps because they don't have a throttle. You can download a free topo map for Garmin from www.gpsfiledepot.com but the roads are based on the same old government data. www.sandiegotrailmap.com

    Garmin 62stc problems

MapSource hasn't been updated in 4 years. Newer receivers have implemented features that older units didn't have. I've seen maps and data exchanged using multiple methods. I recommend using BaseCamp instead. http://www.garmin.com/en-US/shop/downloads/basecamp

Who has a Garmin Montana and.....

BaseCamp works fine. When it comes to loading maps, I trust MapInstall more than I trust MapSource. It hasn't been updated in years and isn't aware of functionality added to newer GPS units.

GPS for chase rig / off road vehicle

Tracks that exceed the limits of your Garmin GPS can be converted to a transparent map that displays on top of your regular map. www.gpx2img.com

GPS for chase rig / off road vehicle

The primary benefit of a Lowrance GPS is that they can handle exposure to water. They're really expensive and a bit clunky when it comes to the interaction. Most of their units were originally made for fishing then re-purposed for off-roading. They've even got the depth finder connection on the back. A good choice if your buddy also happens to own a boat! If he doesn't need the maximum durability aspect, there are less expensive choices that he probably like more. Anything he gets will be able to load tracks, waypoints, etc. I'd be more concerned about maps. Years ago I bought a Garmin map from lbmaps.com. It was pretty good but it's been available for over 10 years so I'm not sure now much it's been updated. Android is an interesting option. You could go through 2 Samsung tablets for the price of one Lowrance. Most Android tablets have a GPS module so no cell service is needed to use a GPS map even if it's only WiFi. Only Apple devices with cell service have a GPS module. WiFi only = no GPS module.
