I ride desert, motocross, road race. I own a 2007 KTM 950R Super Enduro, 2006 GSXR 1000, 2005 CRF 450, and a 2007 Alumi Craft pre-runner. What can i say, I like to ride and drive.
  1. I made it! 540 miles. Crashed once in the whups. Overall it was a great ride. I did come to conclusion though... My 950 is too heavy for the type of riding I do. In any event I am planning on selling the bike and buying a 525EXC. I have a gpx file for the trip but I am not sure how to attach it here. Can anyone help?
  2. OK your info is awesome!!!!! I just figured out how to use it!! I loaded the GPX file onto my GPS. Cool!! Of course I figured this out after manually input all of your locations. I will go on this route when I leave for Vegas. Awesome, thanks!!! Oh yeah the Google map is awesome too. How the heck did you do it???
  3. This is cool. Looks like you are a pro with the GPS!! I just picked up a Garmin 60C. Now I am trying to figure it out. So far so good! I would like to have more detail on the GPS though. Trails, dirt roads, etc. What would you recommend for software? I am planning on riding on the Mojave trail from Afton canyon to Laughlin. I am still looking for a good way to get to Barstow. As it stands now I am planning on going through Julian. From there I will go to Borrego Springs fule up and head out through the desert. Next destination is Indio for fuel. Then I'm of to Joshua Tree where I hope to find my to Barstow. Tomorrow I am taking the Super R to All American KTM for it's first service. I am going to have them remove the smog junk while they are at it. For the ride I will be running Bridgestone ED660 rear and ED661 front. I'll let you know how they perform. Hopefully alot better than the OEM tires, they suck!!
  4. Yeah 10-11 is correct. I am doing this ride with some friends. Next time I will set up a ride for everyone once I know what I am doing. Thanks
  5. thanks for the info. I am leaving 8-11-06 from Alpine and should be in vegas on the 13th. I have maps, gps, new rubber and gas. All is good:)
  6. I have been there about 10 times. There is not much there. It is in the middle of nowhere. There is a bar which is quite scenic. A pool which I have been told is clean now. And of course rooms. Nothing fancy here. The power shut is generator and shuts off at 10pm. No TV either. There is several ways to get there. The ride is fun and worth the trip. There is a trail that leads from Mikes to the observatory 10000 ft elevation. I call the trail, Trail of Tears. Why, because I have seen grown men almost in tears trying to make it to the top. It has been about 5 years since I have been up it. I have herd the trail has been graded or made easier somehow. Don’t know if it is true or not. I would recommend it, the view is awesome. Make sure you fuel up in Valley de Trinidad before heading up to Mike’s. Also there is a great hamburger joint in Valley T. Overall, there is a lot to see and it’s a great ride. I would recommend leaving from Ranch Santa Veronica just south east of Tecate. Your vehicles are safe there. Oh yeah, I would be interested in going on the ride. Email: todd33@cox.net .

    Which Adventure Bike to Buy?

The fuel tank is actually 3.8 gal. I have seen specs that reflect the 3.43 you mentioned. They are incorrect. I know this because I have put more that 3.5 gals in the tank and it was not empty. As for range! My last ride was 125mi on one tank. I have checked the mpg. It ranges from 39 to 49 mpg. I also just purchased a Garmin 60c gps. I will check the Speedo for accuracy.

    Which Adventure Bike to Buy?

I have no plans at this time. I rode today to Borrego. It was very windy. I have noticed the rear tire is going away fast. Most of my riding to this point has been on the pavement. I am still breaking it in. 250 miles to go. So far the bike has been great. Today I had it up to 106 mph down a smooth dirt road out near Jacumba. You know, the one that goes to the nudist camping ground. The still plenty to go. Cornering on the dirt road was very slippery. I am not used to this large of a bike. I think I am expecting too much. I dont know anyone who has an enduro to compare with. Thanks everyone for replying. Todd
  9. Thanks, do you know if there is trail from Avi to vegas?
  10. Does anyone know of trails or dirt roads that starts in the Hisperia area that goes to Laughlin? I am trying to put together a ride that will end up in Vegas via Lake Havasu and or Laughlin.

    Which Adventure Bike to Buy?

Hello, I just joined San Diego Adventure Riders, today. I also purchased a KTM 950R Super Enduro last week. I think I got the last one. I can tell you that the bike is awesome. It is a big bike though. The seat height is 38 inches. I am 5'11" tall. I can touch with both feet, toes only! This makes for some exciting maneuvering in the tight stuff. The bike weighs 400 pounds (claimed). More like 425 or 450 would be my guess. The weight is not that noticeable though. Just don't lay it down; you will need a crane to pick it up. It handles great on the street and the dirt. The OEM tires are not good in the soft sand or loose dirt. I am going to change them ASAP. So far I am getting about 39 MPG. I have been riding/racing motorcycles for more than 30 years and never owned a bike quite like this one. I have own at least 25 different bikes mostly MX bikes. I am very impressed with my first KTM and would highly recommend it to anyone who has lots of experience oh yeah and money 14k OTD. This bike is not for rookies unless you want to spend lots of $$ to fix all scratched up parts from, you know running out of talent.
