    Tourist Visa?

I was down near Loreto, then over to the Pacific side camping with my family for almost two weeks in early Jan of this year. We did not bother getting Visas this trip. In fact the office was closed when we rolled by at 9:00 am in the morning southbound. They were open on the way north and did not ask for them . They share a spot on Mex 1 with the agricultural office which sprays the bottom of your car. Both officials were very polite and just chatted with my wife. Fortunately she speaks fluent Spanish. I have made 4-5 trip south of Guerro Negro in the last 3 years and never been asked for a visa. I think this is a low priority for the Mexican government at this time. They are trying to make travel as painless as possible. If for whatever reason you were to get stopped and required to get your visa. You can buy them there.

    BONITA to TECATE for lunch!

Looks like fun. I am still trying to piece the section from where you came out on HWY 94 through Tecate Peak into town. So far not having much luck staying in the dirt. Most of the hills off the main rodes that the BP uses are just to steep on the southern slopes My friend and I got kicked off the the border fence section that you took home last time we rode out there a few weeks ago. I was just in Tecate a week or so and found a nice short cut into the line. It is west of where you entered. If interested PM me and I will provide waypoint. Andrew

  4. Bummer I don,t see the pictures ! Here they are:
  5. Had a great trip down south of San Felipe last weekend (March 1-3)with my dad. Plans were to head south to Gonzaga. Due to wind on the way down things got a little challenging from the wind and my dad needed to slow down a bit. Ended up going taking Mex 3 across from Ensenada to Mex 5 then south to San Felipe. No gas in Oso Negros/Heros de Indepencia. Via de Trinidad has gas, as do points south. Ended up camping south of San Felipe on the beach. North Bound trip was again very windy and with my dad being getting hit with a full blow cold did not make for a fun return trip. We decided that it would be best to stay in Mexico and take the toll road west to avoid the mountains here in San Diego as well as avoid the high speed interstate driving. This was a good choice. I would highly recommend taking the toll road if entering at Tecate/Otay if San Felipe is your destination. It is very scenic drive. This is of course if staying on pavement. My dad is 78 now and is fine with sticking to the roads. Here a few pictures:

  7. Thanks to everyone that has replied to my inquiry. I really appreciate the advise. I will be riding out to McCain valley via Hwy 94. Plan is to meet at the Junction of Hwy94/Otay Lakes Road at 0945 +/- 10 minutes. I will be riding a somewhat dirt oriented 2009 Red KLR650. Will be riding with several others riding KLR's. Andrew
  8. Hi all, I am considering heading out to McCain Valley/Lark Canyon this weekend on Saturday as plan B if the ride I am planning in the Lagunas doesn't work out. I have never been out to McCain Valley/Lark canyon and was wondering if there is any riding out there suitable for larger DS bikes? All the ride reports that I have seen have been done on smaller bikes. Thanks, Andrew

Need help with sheered bolt removal

Pryo, Mike is having a tech day at the shop next weekend o n 15 oct. He had a mig welder there at the last tech day. The upgraded foot pegs mounts would be pretty easy. I think I might have some flat stock here at the house. I will be at the tech day next weekend. If worse comes to worse I have the equipment needed to do this job including a mig welder.

  14. Hi all, I just returned from Yosemite on 4/14 and was hoping to spend a few days riding there with my family. Unfortunately still way too much snow. In the Fish Camp area there is still 6-8 feet. I was really bummed as I had hoped to do some riding in the area. Hopefully things will change in a few months. Andrew
