CABDR with the DesertX, Section 8 - May 2023

May 29, 2023 Bishop to Benton (reversed), 36 miles FIN! Section 8 is a short one. So short that we decided to take it in reverse on our way home day towards LA and San Diego. It's only 36 miles and it would be super fast, if not for an unexpected road closure due to the recent heavy rains. The Chidago Canyons were a pleasant and beautiful ride, and it was also nice to stop and check the ancient petroglyphs on the way to Bishop. After section 8 was finished, concluding our beautiful BDR trip, we stopped in Bishop for some great BBQ. Of course, to finish the trip with the full spirit of adventure, we had our first and only flat tire from all sections. - Last week

Local San Diego OHV park plan! Mtg Jan 30.
Jlburgess replied to Vintage Veloce's topic in Important Issues, Environmental-Land Use Issues, Important Meetings & Local Information
I was just going to post a link to the meeting for Coral Canyon which they have apparently just opened for the Spring (mud) but both campgrounds are closed due to "TBD bathroom installations". Just wait until a month from now and it will be too dry to ride there. There won't be a new off-road park in SD county in my lifetime, it's a money grab. They also tripled the camping rates at Coral Canyon. I saw the bathrooms before they decided to close them and the problem was that they never took the trash out! There was literally five garbage cans worth of trash in and around one can. They wouldn't even bother to go over there. Your government dollars at work! In case you think I'm just being sarcastic, I spent the last 8 years of the last 10 years of my life watching the government waste your money at NAS North Island. People are literally coming there to sleep until the retirement check is authorized. I've gone round and round with them at Cleveland NF Descanso Ranger district for a couple of years now. They don't give a rat's ass about closing anything. Their closure for campfires is also expired. They're taking funds from OHV green and red sticker programs and not providing anything for it other than to buy themselves a new coffee maker and sit on their fat asses. Any excuse for a closure is great for their agenda. They recently upgraded (farmed out) the parking lot at Cedar Creek Falls which of course closed the connector to Eagle Peak road apparently permanently. They seem to have lots of money to install a camera there but won't lift their finger to repair any damage to the trails. It's much easier to close it. Don't get me started on Deer Park rd and Thing Valley to La Posta. I would recommend contacting somebody higher than Scott T. in the Descanso Ranger district to make these people do something other than apply for new grants to waste your money with. Meeting at the Ramona coffee shop at 8 am. Easy pace, I have a fairing new rider. So should be mellow. Might stop off at Cahuilla racetrack just to show him what they look like, but will not be riding the track. -

laguna Hanson Rd/Compadre conditions
Zubb replied to KMH's topic in Baja Info, Upcoming Rides, Ride Reports, Photos, etc.
rode it both ways on March 13 and March 16. Both trails were in excellent condition. The sand on Compadre was reasonably packed save for about 2 or 300 yards of freshly graded dirt fluff (which should be packed by now). The river crossing was only about 8-10" deep and had firm grip, no slime. ValleT was in the best shape I've ever seen it. The normally DEEP ruts in the corners were pretty filled in. I would happily take Noobs on it (and did). I'm always on the 1250, pulling other 12xx's, 890's, T7's behind me. My only caution would be to always ride right. Never left. Especially in Baja. And if it's raining, skip Compadre altogether unless you want a story to wright about when you get home. Have fun guys! Compadre... -

Hi all, Thinking about doing a two day ride down to Coyote Cal's, across to Valley T, then up through either Compadre or Laguna Hanson Rd to Tecate. Hoping someone has recently been on LH or Compadre and could share what the conditions are like. I'll be on my GSA and my partner will be on an 890r. Thanks! Kevin- -
Great little bikes, I have had a few. They seem to be gaining popularity a bit. What are you asking for it?

Champ where are you in North Idaho? Have you ridden any of the IDBDR?

Hey guys, I've been gone from the area more than less. I'm 66 and riding a T7 these days, anyway my older sister has a 1975 Trail 90 in near perfect condition for sale. Her hubby (Wildwood) was his screen name here has polished it, worked on the forks, carb etc. I found this bike in a shed and bought it for her, it had been sitting for a long time. Don't know how to put pic's on here but its red. Text me I'll try to forward the pictures she sent me. Don't know what she is asking for sure, she thought she was going to be a rider but ehhhh maybe not. Can bring anywhere between North Idaho and California at the end of the month. 619-840-4438 Charlie.

Yeah, it was a nice day to visit there. Then the wind was howling through the canyon on the way out, it was difficult to stay upright on the bikes.
